This paper analyzes the causes and effects of same-sex marriage in the USA. In the USA, same sex marriage is legal in 13 states since the year 2004. However, 12 other states are following suite. Such laws enacted in each state and not by the federal government. In the recent past, the issue of gays and lesbianism has gained political publicity with the president and the senate giving their public opinion. The recognition of law marriages is becoming a heated debate worldwide with the recent tour of president Obama in Africa where he spoke of the same. These marriages are constitutionally recognized and partners enjoy marriage benefits as the Illinois based Exxon Mobil Corp declares. The support for LGBT in the USA has increased with the president, vice, former president and 50% of the US public supporting it. This raises the question what causes same sex marriage. There are many theories about causes of such relationships as discussed below:
Family: the family is a cause of homosexuality, which result to same sex marriages. Children brought up in a family environment characterized by single parenthood or homosexual member of the family may end up in the practice.
Confused sexuality: people who feel trapped in the wrong body will be attracted to members of their sex. This gender confusion, or sexual identity dysfunction in adolescence combined with sexual abuse and other factors make people turn to negative sexual orientation.
Morality: lack of moral in the society and failure to follow religious teachings has contributed to the increase of same-sex marriages over the years. Religious teachings show that the falling out of man from God was the beginning of all immorality.
Socialization: Human behaviors are learnt from the people we interact with in the society. Where we are brought up will greatly determine our morals. A child brought up in a community where same-sex relationships are common has a higher chance of becoming a homosexual, as they see no deviance in it.
Educational indoctrination: modern education promotes homosexuality by project initiated by homosexual activists within the school or the school taking part in such projects. These practices are done under rubric HIV instruction of preventing suicide by homosexuals and preventing homophobia where student of very young ages are influenced to experiment with homosexual behaviors.
Other possible causes include; homosexual experience, cultural influences, parenting, law, confused gender roles and unusual sexual experience, particularly in early childhood. Despite social science and biological research, there is no known cause of homosexuals.
A marriage requires two-companion bond by love, a husband and a wife, since these unions are essential to make new life and connect children to their mother and father. According to Judge Walker's decision, it does not stand the test of time and history. Congress and the Supreme Court must protect Americans' right to vote for same-sex marriages. Same-sex relationships have suggestively altered family law, since they lead to new formal relationship statuses therefore incorporate principles that both of a child’s legal parents can be made of same sex. Same-sex brings about impacts on family law and the social meanings of marriage.
If same-sex is legalized, the society may be affected and perhaps even the economy of the country involved. Most of these impacts become evident only in the end, but several of the effects would occur immediately. The religious liberty and freedom of conscience might be threatened. This would be because of same-sex marriage. Religious liberty means much more than liturgical rituals. The threats arise from nondiscrimination laws, which are based on sexual orientation. In long term fewer people would marry, these can affect population hence lowering the number of taxpayers therefore affecting the economy of the involved country.
Birth rates would fall too. This is the fundamental role, to reproduce itself. Same-sex marriages can cause antagonism among relatives and other people this causes social effects to the society. Additionally, fewer people will remain to be sexual faithful and monogamous. Though there is multiple sexual partner it is believed marriage is said to be sexually exclusive relationship. The research shows that homosexual men who were in partnered relationships had an average of eight sexual partners per year outside of the primary relationship leading to increase in STDs transmission and HIV/AIDS.
Moreover, fewer children would be raised in a stable family where there is married mother and father. This would be the greatest tragedy if same-sex is legalized. Children raised by their married mother and father experience lower rates of much social pathology, such as illicit drug use, premarital childbearing, arrest, emotional, health, or behavioral problems, school dropout or poverty in the family.
These benefits are passed to future generation. According to American sociological review shows that same-sex result to the following effects on children. Children of same-sex marriages are less likely to confirm to traditional gender norms. Therefore, they end up engaging in same-sex behaviors. Legalizing same-sex marriage would send the message that same-sex parenting and opposite-sex parenting are substitutable, when in fact they may lead to diverse outcomes for children.
