What is art? The traditional meaning of this word stands for something beautiful, amazing, marvelous, unreal. As a rule it comprised of music, different crafts, cinema, paintings, theater, literature. However, with time this list has steadily grown. We could add up cars, fashion, clothing, graffiti art, homes, some aspects of the internet world, technology progress and so on. Do we imagine our lives without art at all? Well, some people have an opinion that the art is for the “reach people only”, they do have an option of buying beautiful expensive things of art such as: paintings, sculptures, different things with “a brand tag” on it. But on the other hand if we think about the true meaning of word “art”. What shall we see? Art is everything and everywhere. Just look around: the table, the tv, cell phone; look out of the window – buildings, streets, parks, even your house itself was designed with the specific purpose – to meet the aesthetic needs of ours! And imagine, just for a second, that all these good things are gone. How would the world around look like? I would say that somewhat pathetic. Indeed, without the art the life would be boring and gray. You would no longer see masterpieces of engineering, architecture and so on. In addition the modern art is subdivided onto different parts. Distinctive subcultures have their own thoughts and views on art. For example hip-hop culture. The definitive part of this culture is graffiti art. What is it? And should it be legal or prohibited? The graffiti is an art of self-expression of the artist via “tags” almost everywhere and it literally has spread all over the world.
In my opinion the graffiti should be at least limited or partly prohibited in some areas.
The issue with the graffiti art has arisen in the middle of the 20th century, when the hip hop culture has just evolved. The main purposes of it were to “mark the territory”, then comes the desire to attract some attention and then, finally, the artistic purpose. As for the first two ones – I do not really see what is the point of drawing such “graffs”. In most of the cases they are useless and without any reasonable purpose. People just put their name tags, on almost every single building, sculpture, including the ones of the cultural heritage. As a result – the city has to spend an enormous sums of money to clean after such “artists”. Such activity should be banned once and for all in the public places, as an alternative – special centers should be provided for the purpose of implementation of these kind of art.
But on the other hand, there are many bright examples of this art that brings esthetic enjoyment without the spoilage of property – so-called street art. Very often it has a deep meaningful subcontext. There are a lot of 3D prints on the asphalt, buildings, and many other places that just look stunning! This is that form of art, where in most cases the artist tries to grab people’s attention to some kind of social phenomenon. Whilst you look at it – this drawing makes you think about the depicted scene and come up with certain conclusions. That is the real purpose of any kind of art! To bring joy and to make you think and come up with certain views on the different things in life.
Overall, the graffiti has its own pros and cons. There are many people and the same with opinions: whether it should be banned or not. Speaking of me, I do think that useless graffs on the walls should be banned, and such artists prosecuted. As for the meaningful art – I would encourage some promotions to such manifestation of self expression, because it brings moral satisfaction to everybody without any kind of damage to the surrounding scenery, furthermore, everyone has the right to express himself .
