Solar energy plays a critical role in enabling a green economy that has long been subject to interventions by policy makers in an effort to move away from reliance on fossil fuels and natural gas. Underground storage of solar is, therefore, imperative since it could save the country significant amounts of costs incurred in purchasing energy from other nations. However, the challenge that arises is the need to enhance proper underground storage of solar radiation that has been tapped. Low cost ways of storing green energy are necessary for an economy since there is need to reduce the negative impacts of air pollutants that result from carbon emitted from fossil fuels. Tens of thousands lose their lives yearly with premature deaths being among the major losses suffered by people across the globe. Solar energy is cheaper and offers better ways of lighting homes and providing heat during winter as evidenced by Australia that has made significant steps in implementing green energy.
Relation of underground solar energy storage to engineering
The need for underground solar energy storage incorporates various engineering fields. Among the fields linked to solar storage include civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering as well as computer engineering. The technologies to be used in the process involve various civil and environment tools as well as computer applications that necessitate inclusion of the three engineering fields in the process. The challenge of creating a stable grid from solar energy creates the need to involve electrical engineers in establishing the approach to take in the transmission process. Installation of infrastructure aligned with solar energy could lead to reliable, affordable national grid in case where generators are combined with cheaper storage mechanisms.
Low cost electricity is used to fulfill peak energy demands during winter seasons where there is greater demand for heating. Stored solar energy could also be retrieved in summer to make ice for cooling where there are high electrical costs associated with the process.
