A psychologist is an individual who specializes in understanding and evaluating human behavior, (Nevid, 2011). The scientific approach to psychology is used for explaining the behavior of individuals based on the four set goals. The scientific approach is meant to eliminate the informal judgment methods which are subjective and most often inaccurate, (Nevid, 2011). King Solomon from the bible is said to be the wisest ruler to have ever lived on earth. He sought wisdom from all angles and showed his wisdom based on his decision making. From this, he was able to write about wisdom and ways to find wisdom through his advice to the people. According to the book of Proverbs (1:7), King Solomon urges people to have the fear of God in order to gain knowledge. More importantly, he urges people to follow instruction since only fools would reject instructions. In the same book (2:2), he urges people to listen and understand and emphasizes understanding and prudence in chapter 8 (5). Chapter 9 (10) emphasizes on the fear of the Lord and understanding.
According to Solomon, (Proverbs 1:7, 2:2, 8:5, & 9:10), the first step in understanding human behavior is understanding. More importantly, people’s behavior is determined by their beliefs and view of God. About understanding, the scientific method agrees with the method applied by Solomon. However, the scientific method is not solely based on the belief and relationship with God. However, Solomon applied all the four goals of psychology in his advice on wisdom. He sought to describe, explain and predict human behavior. His description and mention of the fools and the right show his description of behavior and the explanation given as to why he terms some as fools, achieves the goal of explaining human behavior. By providing advice for the future generations, Solomon’s aim was to control the behavior of the future generations. This abides with the goals of psychology in understanding, explaining and controlling human behavior.
