For my design, I chose the Panopticon Peep Box Library. The patterned my design after the famous architectural design of the “Panopticon”, which had been present for several decades. The design is similar to a circular prison that has cells that are aligned and arranged surrounding a central well, where the prisoners can be seen at all times by the jail guards. The Idea of Peep Box Library symbolizes an expression of a free access to vast knowledge and information. The idea is that the Peep box is Persian-inspired in style that has gold glory box, where one can see images of different places by peeping or looking through a hole on it. Similarly, the Panopticon Peep Box that I envisioned as my library design is a representation that there is no single power that will control the type of information and knowledge that a nation wants to feed its people. In effect, the society is given free access to knowledge and they are not restrained to any information as part of their academic rights.
Part of my idea is to combine the Panopticon and the Peep Box concept. The focal point of the library includes a design of a golden cylinder space that has many holes in its walls. Any person can look through these holes to find what they are looking for. The visitors of the library can choose from which hole to peep and view various sightings. Behind the Panopticon is a golden wall, where there is a hidden power that controls what will be shown from behind these holes. The visitors of the library will have fun and learn to appreciate beauty, gain access to knowledge, and have a great time discovering the places.
