Gratitude is an important feeling, as it helps us remain humble, and teaches us contentment, despite the challenges we face daily. When I examine my life, I can see that I am deeply indebted to many people for different lessons about character. I think it is a good practice for people to acknowledge the people in their lives who have helped teach them important lessons along the way.
For example, my sister has always been an important cornerstone of my life. Without her, I would not view honesty or trust as being important morals. There have been instances when my sister has lovingly told me that I must continue to strive to be a good person in order for good things to happen in my life. My sister is humble, and wise, yet never judges a person for their wrongdoings, or character flaws. Certainly, she has never judged me.
Another person whom I feel very grateful to have in my life is my closest friend, Ken. Ken is a person who would do anything for anyone, regardless of the cost to him in time, or money. In addition, my friend, Ken, has taught me to never expect things in return from people whom you help. Ken is a very philosophic kind of person, and he sees every circumstance in life as the opportunity to learn an invaluable lesson. Also, he never acts superior to other people, even though, in my opinion, his character is superior to other people’s character. However, Ken would never see things this way.
Lastly, I had a teacher in high school whom I will refer to as Mr. Jensen. Mr. Jensen taught me how to laugh at myself, and not take everything in life so seriously. He motivated his students to learn by showing how a lesson or reading related directly to one’s everyday life. Thus, Mr. Jensen was an effective teacher who inspired me to go to college, and earn a degree.
Finally, I realize that my life holds little meaning without being grateful to others for the love and kindness they have shown me. Gratitude helps us appreciate the people who have helped shape and mold our character. Without gratitude, people might think that they alone are responsible for their accomplishments. People should practice gratitude more often, as being grateful to others is honorable, and respectful.
