Hypothesis: Today's children have little or no respect for their elders.
In order to prove the hypothesis, different data collection methods will be employed. For this case, interviews, experiments, and questionnaire methods will be used.
For the interview, it is necessary to determine the method used to pick the sample population for interviews. In this case, the best population to interview is inclusive parents form different parts of the region. After determining the sample population, the next step involves determining the interview questions relative to the hypothesis. The following questions are most suitable for this hypothesis:
- How many children do you have?
- Have you ever been summoned to their school with cases of indiscipline?
- What trouble was your child in?
- Would you say your children are well disciplined?
Some parents would shy from calling their children indiscipline and may give the wrong information hence, the need of a second method of data collection. The most genuine method is the experimental method. This needs to be discrete for the best results. The best way to go about it would involve randomly picking a child and asking them for assistance on some errand. The first response from the child would indicate their level of discipline. An indiscipline child will be rude while a disciplined child will give a respectful response. A disciplined child would agree to either help or decline due to fear.
The use of questionnaires will also be employed. This will cater for people who are shy for interviews. Questionnaires provide a degree of anonymity. A parent will not be shy to give honest answers through questionnaires. The same questions used for the interview will also be used for the questionnaires. After all data has been received and analyzed, an informed conclusion can be drawn. This will prove the hypotheses true or false.
