A technical description seeks to provide details about a product. These details focus on the all the characteristics of the object including visual characteristics (Hering & Hering, 2010). Other technical description focus on the processes and functions that an object can accomplish. A technical description should be broken down into parts that enable the audience to understand the description. The use of visuals improves the effectiveness of a technical description. This paper aims to give a technical description of Samsung Galaxy S4.

Samsung Galaxy S4 is a smartphone that is a creation of the Samsung Electronics. This phone was launched early this around March. Samsung Mobile Electronics is the world leading mobile company in the currently. Samsung Galaxy S4 is a powerful phone that boasts of many characteristics. The phone uses Android 4.2 as the operating system.

It is necessary to give a brief background information on Samsung Galaxy S4 before proceeding with the description. Android smartphones have gained popularity all over the world in the recent years. Currently, Samsung Mobile is the world leader in the production of android smartphones. The phone was launched early this year and was available in the market by April. Samsung Electronics has a number smartphones that belong to the Galaxy Series. Currently, Samsung Galaxy S4 is the latest phone in the galaxy series. The phone holds a record of being the fastest selling mobile in the history of Samsung Electronics.
Parts and Characteristics
This is phone is less than one year old since it was bought. Therefore, most of the physical features are still new. This phone is black in color with a line of silver on the sides. The silver goes all around the phone and covers both the top and bottom sides. It is extremely thin and sleek in nature. It is approximately 7.9mm in thickness, which makes one of the slimmest smartphones in the world. It is made of polycarbonate material, which has a exceptionally smooth texture. It is approximately 69.8 mm wide and 136.6mm long. This phone has a large screen, which is smooth and clear. The longest distances between two points on the screen is approximately 5 inches long. The screen takes most of the spaces at the front and leaves little space for the front camera and sensors. The phone has four spots at the top of the screen. These spots are probably the sensors and the front camera.
At the top of the screen, a line is somehow rough in texture. Immediately below the screen, the name ‘SAMSUNG’ is engraved. This engraving is readily visible when one first looks at this phone. It has a rectangle shape that is tapered at the edges. This shape gives the phone a sleek look that makes it attractive to the eyes. It is remarkably light, which suggests that this phone is made of very light materials.
This phone runs Android 4.2, which is the latest in the Android OS series. It has a maximum of seven home screens. The phone has a extremely sensitive touch that makes it highly responsive. It is highly sensitive since it can sense a finger hovering over the screen of the phone. Upon touching, the screen feels as the finger goes deep into the screen. The material used in making the screen looks fragile, but it is extremely hard. This because even though this phone has fallen many times the screen remains intact. In each home screen has a number of icons that represent many applications installed in the phone.
The screen is dark when the screen light is off. Currently, the phone has a blue wallpaper that lights up the screen and enhances the contrast. The icons appear sharp and clear. In fact, it seems like they are real. This may be because the phone has very powerful resolution, which enhances visibility of objects found on the screen. At the top, there is the notification bar that display many icons. The notification bar has a network indicator, battery indicator and message applications. The network indicator shows the type of network, which can be either 2G, 3G or 4G network. The notification bar pulls down to reveal all the applications that are active like the music application. The phone interface is very simple, which makes it easy to find something. It has indicators showing the number of home screens that are available. At the bottom, there is dock bar that has five application icons.
The power button is located on the right side of the phone. The power button is a bit slim and thin. On the left side, the phone has the volume button. The volume button is bigger than the power button. However, it is relatively smaller compared to the one found in most phones. At the bottom of the screen, the phone has a central button for returning to the default home screen. This home button is smooth and very sensitive. It has been made very visible and is the only manual button at the bottom of the screen. Apart from the manual menu button, two touch buttons exist at the bottom of the screen. The touch menu button is found on the left side of the central home button while the back touch button is found on the right side. These buttons are not visible when the backlight is off. When the phone is active and backlight is on, they are visible.
It is necessary to describe the application menu of the phone. The application of the menu is arranged in a way that makes it easy to find applications. There are four applications horizontally and five applications vertically. At the bottom, there are screen indicators that show the number of the application menu. These icons are arranged in alphabetical order. Currently, the phone has 5-application menu that can increase if the number of applications increase. The application icons are large and sharp.
The back of the phone has a smooth texture. At the back, a camera has a small opening just below. The camera has a dark tinted glass that protects the screen. The camera has a tiny lens when one looks at an extremely close range. The glass used for the flash light is clear and has a small bulb inside. In addition, the back of the phone is engraved. The back of this phone does not contain many features. It has lines that have been drawn to form different shapes. These lines are very light and are only visible on a closer look. The back of the phone opens up to reveal battery that is black in color. When opened, there is a battery compartment, the place for inserting sim card and the memory card.
