Globalization ameliorates the flow of products, resources, technologies, ideas, and manpower by crossing the political and cultural borders of nations. Globalization brings a tremendous change in human lives and influences even the developing as well as underdeveloped countries more in the process of their growth and development. Multinational companies and global corporations are playing vital role in facilitating and structuring social relationship that transcend the borders. Depending on the country or region, the impact of the globalization varies.
Sociology is a systematic study of social activities of humans. It further explains how the behavior of the individuals related to the social pattern and the social forces affect the individual perception. The sociology of globalization has made widespread implications to broaden the worldly communication. The principles of sociology apply to the phenomenon of globalization that equates to people who has the changing social dynamics due to globalization. Peter Berger clearly says:
“In seeing the strange in the familiar ‘things are not always what they seem.’ Sociology pushes us to question the assumptions we are making about society, and reveals aspects of our social life that we typically would not claim to be ‘obvious’ facts. Our social world guides our actions and life choices as individuals. People act in the context of the group they belong; it is the group that influences human behavior. The realization of the strength and importance of the group is the heart of the sociological perspective” (Berger, 1983).
According to Berger, even the marriage is happening not because of love or irresistible emotions, but because of considering age, height, income, education, and race. The act of union of two hearts is highly influenced by the social forces like culture, money, business, education, character, technology etc.
In the words of Bilton, sociology can be described “as the study of social life, social change, and the social causes and consequences of human behavior” (Bilton, 1987: Ch.1). Social imagination is the way in which sociology can be understood. Sociological imagination allows us to think how the social forces have impact over our life. To illustrate the sociological perspective, mobile phone is the best and perfect example as it is the technology and a social force that has been created by human, and it has transformed the every aspects and behavior of human life. Nowadays, mobile phones have become as if one of the parts of the body. It reduces space among the countries through its development in technology. No one is ready going out without mobile phone as it plays a vital role in human life. In the modern world where the technological advancement is at the peak, people are highly addicted to the technologies, as it becomes their section of life. Mobile phone is not only for the purpose of communication, but also for the purpose of social and business transaction. It also takes the incarnation as a matter of entertainment. Sociology provides us with the perspective to think about in and around the world we belong.
