Essay on Romantic Vocal Music
Abstract
This essay addresses the chronological development of the vocal skill bel canto, German Leider, and music dramas. It traces the unique era in the opera masterpiece and the persons overdue the standard works in Italian Opera. This work further outlines the characteristics of romantic music and composition work.
Introduction
Romantic music is a term denoting to a specific period in European music antiquity from about 1815 to 1910. Romanticism designates the enlargement of recognized structures inside a composition, creating a composition more fervent and sensitive. During this era composers twisted their devotion to the countenance of strong feelings in their song and were also predisposed by technological improvements, counting the progress of the piano and the superior projection of the implement of the masterpiece orchestra. This paper seeks to explain and examine the difference between German Lieder, bel canto opera, and music dramas.
The term lieder are the plural form of the German word lied which refer to a song. The Romantic Opera
Factually connotation of beautiful humming, Bel Canto is a terminology used justly by choral musician’s globally, ornate style of vocal used by Italians singers in both art song and opera. The bel canto emerged in the 16th and 17th centuries, but it originated all the way through the middle ages. This system of singing instigated in Italy almost four centuries ago and is centered on the notions simplicity, pureness and uniformity of tone fabrication and agile particular and virtuosic routine of the voice. It is extensively used in throughout those eras in both polyphonic and single verbal music and then advanced to what is commonly recognized as Italian opera.
An opera, by description, is merely a performance in which the fonts sing, instead of speaking in all or utmost of their lines. By the quality of exciting task, this art method may possibly be considered as the most multifaceted of them all, merging acting, choral, instrumental music, attires, scenery, and some arrangement of dance. Much support to Greek philosophies, the opera uses the massive power of composition to interconnect feelings. Music is assumed to express sentiments more skillfully than the articulated word. Passionate opera provided more proportions to the thoughts and extreme feelings. Sensitive opera was more of a combination of instrumental singing, acting, costumes, stage setting, and choral singing.
Music dramas
Music as a medium of expression led to many influences. This resulted to various changes in the society as influenced by romantic music. For instance, the popularity of secular music grew during the era of renaissance. All the music, comedies, tragedies, poetry and dancing were provided at a variety of events such as feasts, jousting contests, coronations, and other important affairs. Music was well organized to appeal to the ear, eye and imagination of the listener. Music dramas involved compositions of borrowed folklores to influence the understanding of the composition. Various artist came together professionally to produce a marriage of musical and dramatic narratives.
Conclusion
Lieder, Opera, and music drama are all interrelated with one another, however; the main the all settle at a main theme, romance. Romantic music is an intense personal expression of emotions in which the fantasy and imagination play a significant role. Emphasis is mostly on lyrical or song like melodies that are longer, dramatic and emotional. It is clearly evident as described above that the three techniques of composing music are different in some ways. The lieder incorporate use of a piano and no special emphasis is given on costumes whereas opera gives more emphasis on costumes than the instrumentals. Music dramas incorporate both the quality of lieder and opera to form a masterpiece to communicate feelings and ideas.
