Five Websites
1. musicforchildren.net
This website explains itself not only of how to connect children to music but at what age to enlighten their senses. Mary Ann Halls’ program is a systematic, step-by-step curriculum available from spring to summer. It connects infants, toddlers, adolescents, and teenagers to age-sensitive music. If a child grew up through the program, she would learn the basic patterns of rhythm, genre, voice lessons, and at last being a part of a theatrical show.
2. musicforkids.com
This a website that is good to just give parents ideas, and to get kids started. It a sells a wide variety of instruments. For the standard keyboard to be played in the house, to the bell sets to be used in classrooms, and the simple side whistle for personal entertainment. It also promotes flashcards, cds, and lesson books for homeschooling.
3. musiced.about.com
This website gives prompts. With young children, there are more than a handful of ideas on how music is interpreted and enjoyable. Prompts encourage small impressions to the grand. This includes singing to the child, playing games that incorporate music and even offering favorite songs, to going and sharing the experience at a concert event.
4. musiced.about.com
This website is more detailed than the previous. It acknowledges that children are already exposed to different kinds of music and should be encouraged. It also asks in encouraging the children to identify and discover the instruments being played, what feelings are being expressed, and when it was composed.
5. kinderjazz.com
This website categorizes in an easy layout that dedicates a few paragraphs to how music affects children. Music is explained as a thorough and unlimited media that affects social, physical, literary, and creative development. The hosting website explains music not as something to be taught but experiences in order to be appreciated.
My favorite website
1. kinderjazz.com. This website was my favorite because it explains how and why music affects children. It shows that music is not only a social medium, but it is also personal. Not only theoretical, it was creative, as well. I like this site because it says music should not be taught, it should not be forced, it should be something that surrounds you with its excitement and what you want to learn more about.
2. A. What makes music important for adults is the same for children, there must be an emotional experience.
B. Finding out about music is finding out the world. Examples are humming with a piece of paper in your mouth, or rattling objects. It is a test of self-satisfaction to be able to find contentment in discovering something.
C. Teaching at early age to take part in music promotes the idea of expression, brain developments, and memory.
Objectives/Purposes of Assignment:
The purpose of this assignment was to know how music generally affects children. I learned how music is interpreted, taught, and experienced, and how I could make it a positive experience for others.
What did you learn through participating in this assignment?
This assignment gave me the chance to see that there were non-school related programs that were schools themselves. Also, that through the programs, they were respectful of what to expose to children at what age. They were working with ideas I did not realize would matter.
What were the valuable achievements through doing this assignment?
I achieved an understanding of how children and adults profit by music education.
What was your greatest strength you brought to this assignment?
My greatest strength was finding a website on “how to get started” from an adult’s perspective. Being given prompts on how to have fun with your child seemed the best find for me.
What was your greatest challenge you brought to this assignment?
My greatest challenge was deciding on websites that gave the most non-repetitive. This meant reading and ticking off on ideas that I already found, and looking for websites that were more relevant.
How could this assignment be designed to better support your learning? What, if anything would you change?
This could be designed better by making into a group project, where children could ask each other what they like and have discussions. As for how to change the assignment, I would advise the opposite. I would have a question directed toward myself. I would ask how does music affect me the most, and the least.
Based on the rubric, how would grade your work.
Based on the rubric, I would give myself 41 out of 50.
