Introduction
The principal of equality explains that men are equal in moral, legal, political and social perspective. Morally it means that people have equal worth or value while legally all people are subject to the same laws. On the other hand, political equality means that people have an equal voice when electing leaders and passing laws in one’s own country. Lastly, social equality means that people have equal access to the things that make life decent. Human rights state that human beings are equal in all ways regardless of their ethnicity, intelligence, sexual orientation, sex, color and racial differences. However, these are regarded as platitudes and are universally accepted. This paper discusses and shows that there exist real differences and not just suppositions in reality, contrary to popular opinion (Arnardóttir 54).
Discussion
People believe that common humanity makes humans valuable and equal. However, they lack the explanation as to what makes humanity valuable. In Hobbes notion the value of a human is the self worth he/she has towards himself. When a person regards himself low and another regards himself of high worth or value, legally they are equal but one has a lower self worth than the other does. However, it does not imply that the two have to be treated differently according to the principle of equality. That person who regards himself of low self worth deserves the same treatment as the person who regards himself highly. When acknowledging other differences such as the wealth, it is important in the legal dimension for administration of justice through equity. The rich at times molest the poor when on legal grounds. However, according to the law they are all under the laws of the same nation (Nielson 38).
Traditionally the principle of equality treats men and women in similar manners. It is problematic in the sense that women will get a treatment that is in the level of men standards. This obscures the fact that there exists differences between men and women and placing them on a level playing ground will disadvantage the women. Therefore, for equality to exist among the two genders, initiatives have to acknowledge the existing differences.
Without the principle of equity, United States would not be having a black president. This shows that democracy maturity and embracing the principle is at full height in the country. Women leaders are also at the forefront of fighting for leadership positions in the government. They have the platform they have fought for almost a century. Women leaders are the executives of prosperous companies not only in America but also in also worldwide (Vandenhole 7).
Conclusion
In conclusion, it is definite that the essence of the equality principle of considering the interests of all has been achieved. It emphasizes that an interest is an interest regardless of who it belongs to. On the contrary, Singer argues that in some cases equal consideration can result in widening of the welfare gap. However, it has contributed to the liberation of many worldwide and people from all lifestyles get to enjoy the rights accustomed to them.
