The United States of America is known for its democracy, for the fights of its citizens for the right to vote. However, in the end, not everyone goes to place his vote on Election Day. Why does this happen? Why do citizens overlook their right to vote and discard is as unneeded? There may be a number of reasons for such actions. Many simply don’t think their one vote will count. The others don’t know who to vote for or don’t agree with any one of the candidates. While the third group of people just don’t care about politics in general.
Apathy is becoming more and more common. What is one vote in a nation of more than 300 million? Can one vote really make a difference? Besides, most don’t think that their lives will change whoever is in the office. Presidents change more or less often, while people don’t see the change in their everyday life. Whoever is in the office, life seems to be more or less the same. It is not surprising that people don’t vote then. Moreover, the political campaigns of today are far from being informative. They are a soft of a marketing campaign and most people vote for the person the like best, rather than for the program they see better fit for the government to follow in the future. All of this comes down to apathy and disinterest.
Choice is what voting offers. However, sometimes, one may not like any of the choices at hand. In that case, why bother voting? If one does not agree with one or the other candidate, then he or she is likely to skip the elections.
Politics is not the most interesting topic in today’s society. It is true that is it is a great point to argue hours about, but it is not something people really look into. The majority of the population may find it hard, tangled and unnecessary.
There are a number of reasons people don’t vote: apathy, lack of good choice, disinterest. Whatever the reason, it is important to remember that people had fought for years for this independence. It did not come straight away. After gaining independence, both women and African Americans still needed to defend their right to vote. They dedicated their lives to this goal. Don’t waste the chance given to you by them.
