Introduction
BC Wildlife Park operates under the wildlife Act of the country’s constitution section 16. This act gives power the Governor of the Council to declare any Crown lands or with the consent of the landowner, privately owned land to be a wildlife park for the control and management of wildlife and wildlife habitats. It clearly states that the primary purpose for the park establishment is education and allows for research, breeding programs of certain wildlife species and reserves establishment. Under this act also subject to restrictions, camping may can prohibit, public functions subject to the conditions set in regulations, and no person can be allowed to operate a privately owned Wildlife Park without obtaining license from the minister. R.S., 504. S. 16.
The park has a vision to contribute to the future through conservation of the wild ecosystems, biodiversity and creating a healthy environment. This is the driving force of all the parks staff that motivates them towards achievement of this great goal. The vision gives a direction and so the management team has responsibility of making it clear to all members of the staff. When an employee is hired, then they must sign a declaration form agreeing to abide by the organization’s policies and must be one who believes in this vision. The parks mission establishes the means of achieving the vision. It seeks to encourage appreciation and respect for wildlife within the park, use education to retain biodiversity, invest in research, and facilitate breeding of the wildlife animals and rehabilitation of anything eroded by human activities. The slogan “Conservation through Education” is widely used to form strong teams and encouraging every person to take part in the conservation efforts.
BC Wildlife Park is a society that operates with a policy of affordable access through membership system. The annual membership fee ranges $37 for adults to $22 for children under 17years. An annual membership holder enjoys free entry to other parks like Ednomonton Valley Zoo.
