The most important part of an office, company, or institution is its human capital. They invest so much in their human capital or human resource because their outputs are based on the performance of their people. In this matter, businessmen and agencies do agree in one single principle: the success of their company is based on their employees and so it is important for the management to take good care of their people (Kozlowski).
However, due to the differences in the employees’ attitude, values, culture, principles, and agenda, there are times that issues come up between themselves (Doherty & Guyler). Some might be very petty but still, it was observed that it greatly affects the environment in the workplace. Gossiping, breaking boundaries, not respecting other people’s privacy, free-riding, and other offensive attitudes hinder a good workplace relationship between employers in different establishments and institutions.
For instance, if there would be issues between employees under the said department, let’s say, one of them violated the privacy of the other, bringing up her private life without consent would be very problematic. In fact, this situation may lead to something that could hinder the system of the department for this may affect the way they communicate with each other. Information may not flow as easy as how it does before because of the conflicts brought about by being disrespectful to their colleagues.
Therefore, according to an article entitled Building Good Work Relationships published in Mindtools.com, to attain the harmonic relationship between people in the same working environment (workplace), the following must be observed: trust, mutual respect, mindfulness, welcoming diversity, and open communication ("Building Good Work Relationships: Making Work Enjoyable and Productive"). Developing your personal and intrapersonal skills would be very beneficial for you to be able to establish rapport with your officemates. If everyone in the workplace would consider improving themselves, a harmonious and efficient working environment would be a lot easy to establish and maintain thus the success of their company or institution.
