Introduction
Nothing is impossible, the impossible just takes longer. This is clearly brought out in the prison break series where the things done by the actors may seem impossible even to the viewers but through strategic planning, those involved deliver and make happen. Michael Scofield is the leader in this case and no matter how much his crew, the likes of his brother Lincoln Burrows, inmates T-Bag, Sucre, among others, lose hope as view Michael’s plan as not achievable, he proves them wrong. In fact, Michael shows qualities of a good leader indeed, it is true what they say that a forerunner is the one person with most thoughts. Basically, the reality of this will be unfolded through the essay in terms of season. Prison break series has four series, each of which presents situations that seem difficult, but in the end happen after a series of strategic planning. Even in life events, it is actually the determination that matters in everything, something may seem impossible to achieve but if well planned for and given some reasonable time they do happen. The secret is tuning the mindset that indeed that thing must happen no matter the potholes and bumps. Through this series, the crew proves this right from the hardships they go through and still keep on pressing on. Basically, this series is a thriller action as it involves a lot of fighting here and there, plans and people getting hurt. The story revolves around escape from prison where Lincoln Burrows was sentenced to death after being accused of being responsible for the death of the Vice President. However, after much conviction that Lincoln was innocent, Michael is determined to figure out Lincoln’s escape from prison. In his body is an escape route that they will use. The journey starts when Michael robs a bank and is imprisoned too; this makes him an inmate and is much closer to the brother now. He liase with fellow inmates and the journey to escape from prison begins. In the history of this prison which is heavily guarded, rarely do inmates escape, could be due to fear, thus it seems impossible for this to be achieved. Actually after watching the first part, one might think that they will not make it. The paper revolves around this therefore. The check list for evaluation is the central theme, purpose, genre or type of viewers.
SECTION 2
Time heals everything. Indeed this meets the criterion of evaluating through the themes and characteristics of the actors that back it up. For one to survive in war plans are first made after which those involved are detailed about and failure to follow them could lead to backfiring of the initial mission. If in any case one of those involves is impatient and jump to act as not agreed, plans fail. In prison break, the central theme that appears in all seasons is the foreshadowing which in a lay man’s language means something that happens maybe not has impact at that moment but its importance will be revealed later. In season one for instance, Bellick (inmate) once found a knife of Sucre and held it at his throat foreshadowing that T- bag will get a knife at his throat which later happened. In season two, Mahone suggested that could be Sara, the doctor mayhap the chief to the entire escape a thing that come to pass when Sara gets the key which leads to Lincoln Burrows gaining freedom. At one time Abruzzi tells Michael that he sees him in another life prefiguring the death of Michael at one point. In season three, Bellick once said that he cannot kill himself which he later does getting help from Lincoln, Michael and Sucre. In season four, next to Sucre’s car in Scylla a hospital vehicle can be seen and later when the crew uses a hospital van when they were in need of the last car. This theme clearly shows that time heals everything and indeed nothing is impossible, the impossible just takes longer. Contra wise, an opposer might say that this theme is not well brought out in the series. On the defence, as shown above, this is a dominating theme throughout the series from season one to four, there are many events to testify to these and they all get fulfilled.
SECTION 3
This series serve some various purposes and its setting shows that. First, it uses a rather common place for criminals; the prison and a heavy charge that of death sentence to Lincoln. Innocence is also brought out just like in normal life where some inmates are imprisoned for mistakes they did not do, in this case referring to Lincoln who is innocent of the vice president’s death. He goes through this through an act of revenge due to his father’s connection to the company. Brotherhood comes in that of Michael sacrificing his life for the sake of rescuing his brother, the one who had also sacrificed big time for Michael’s education. What are the purposes of these episodes? One is that at one point everyone gets needy and it’s upon self to do well for that goodness to be returned at one point. For instance, Sucre needs to reunite with his wife so badly and to achieve this, Michael comes in. He has the map showing the escape and thus they all have to collaborate and get this done, everyone has a need. Also, the series serves the purpose of delivering a message that one needs to keep pressing on even when a plan fails. Throughout the series this prison crew kept running is plan a failed they used planned b or c and this worked. Losing hope is never an option to success. Some people may argue that Lincoln never believed in Michael breaking him out of prison and that this is an unreality. To defend, yes Lincoln tells Michael of the impossibility at one point something Michael clearly explained by responding ‘not when you are the prison’s designer’. He had with much concentration and care gone through the blue prints of the prison and engraved the entire map in his skin in form of a tattoo. The purposes of this series are therefore of a reality event and real plans, not as one would accuse it of illusion.
SECTION 4
The third criterion is the genre of this series. It falls under the category of a crime, action and drama film. The features of this is presence of suspense, crimes, mystery, characters and themes, characteristics well brought out in prison break series. For instance, there is suspense on how Michael will use the master plan he has to rescue his brother, what Lincoln saw in the box( Sara’s fake head) and how Michael would react after knowing of Sara’s `death’, whether the lady approached by the crew as they claimed they were electric experts would buy that or doubt. Crimes are the order of the day for the inmates, the escape, how Sucre pretended to be a janitor, Michael robbing the bank, the kidnapping of LJ, Lincoln’s son, basically crimes rock or rather dominates the series. On the themes, there is the theme of love for father and son, (LJ and Lincoln), man and woman, (Michael and Sara, Sucre and his wife), forgiveness, that of father and son (Michael and his father), among others. On the characters, there are many the main ones being Michael and Lincoln whose story revolves around. Inmates like Sucre and T-bag. Sara, the doctor and governor’s daughter among others all who play a small or big part in the series. All these vividly describe why this series could be termed as an action thriller. Nevertheless, one may term this series as a romance one, a point opposed because though there is some romance here and there they do not dominate as much. There is romance of Sara and Michael as they kiss and fore play here and there, that of Sucre and his lady even when she visits him in prison, of T-bag and a woman, among others. However, these are just by the ways and not dominating events. They happen in the process of crime or action thus prison break is an action thriller.
SECTION 5.
Patience pays, it might be bitter but the fruits are sweet said one Jean- Jacques Rousseau. In prison break, though it took long for them to gain freedom they were free at last. The act of patience may seem bitter, but by perspiration and persistence plus patience, the result will be success. If at one point Michael, Lincoln and the crew failed to be patient and lost hope, they would not be free at last. Though Michael died, the mission he worked so hard for had been fulfilled. When the journey seems long, full of potholes and bumps, one just needs to keep on pressing on with the mindset of nothing short of success.
