About two months ago, I was heading back to my home at around 1:30 a.m. from a friend’s place. I was on a very dark highway (2-lane) when my car went off suddenly. I became rather nervous as there was no one in the sight. I tried to start my car several times but it just did not set out. In panic, I tried to contact my brother but there were no signals on my cell phone. I just sat there for some time thinking about what could be done to solve this out-of-nowhere-problem. I could not think of any option as my home was miles away and walking in a misty night was just not possible. However, I didn’t completely lost control and decided to walk. I was on my way when a car stopped beside me and the man inside it asked me to if I need any help as he had seen my car back there where I had left it.
With some hesitation, I asked him if he could lend me his phone first so that I could contact my family. I was really frightened as all those stories and movie scenes started coming into my mind in which lost people are murdered by killers or sexually abused by predators. Unluckily, his cell phone could not catch any signals too. Thus, I decided to trust him as he did not seem to be harmful and got in the car. The stranger took me to a store from where I called my brother who left without delay to come pick me. The kind gentleman waited with me and also purchased a sandwich and drink for me. At last my brother arrived and I got home safely. I thanked the kind man plentifully for his generosity. I will always remember his good-heartedness as he taught me a great lesson that can be understood by this saying of Seneca i.e. “wherever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for a kindness” (as qtd. in Singh 181).
