The show became a huge success because of the humor, portrayal of its characters and nonetheless the pragmatic essence of amity in the episodes. The magic of ‘friends’ is that it explores the diversity of human relationships and yet touches the chords common to everyone. Undoubtedly, this factor increases the inclination of viewers and of course I include myself in those viewers. In fact the mere mention of it brings a smile on my face.
The humor represented by the intelligent scripts and the actors who play their roles brilliantly is worth watching and enjoying. Characters like ‘Phoebe’ played by Lisa Kudrow and the popular ‘Joey Tribbiani’ played by Matt LeBlanc surely tickle your funny bone whereas Courteney Cox portrays ‘Monica Geller’ the symbol of perfection. The role of ‘Chandler Bing’ played by Matthew Perry reminds us about the people who tend to be sarcastic and are often unlucky in relationships, moreover ‘Ross Geller’ portrayed by David Schwimmer makes us familiar with a person who is intellectual and yet lacks sense about social conduct, last but not the least, ‘Rachel’ played by Jennifer Aniston is the splendid fashion enthusiast who is smart and elegant. All in all, these archetypes stand a perfect fit for many of our friends and the people whom we know.
The episodes are centralized on common themes involving relationships, family and careers. This not only entertains but attracts a lot of attention and makes one grow fond because of the similar experiences like Monica and Ross are siblings and in a way it is easier to connect to the duo and cherish the comedy involved.
Ross and Rachel are involved in a complicated relationship whereas Monica gets married to Chandler and the couple shares an amusing chemistry, on the other hand Joey has many short-term girlfriends in the series.
Apart from relationships these characters have distinct families that appear occasionally in the episodes, like Chandler is a son of an adult novelist mother and his father is a Las Vegas star who cross-dresses which is hilarious to watch unlike Rachel who is a daughter of a rich businessman but the best part is ‘Emma’, daughter of Ross and Rachel! The two get together and have a lovely baby Emma that is a surprise and a delight to watch. The best part is that since the arrival of the baby parenting aspects are portrayed and that too in a jolly manner.
David Crane and Marta Kauffman represent the masking of seriousness with comical punches and the support that friends offer each other in many walks of life skillfully. The joy of sharing, the emotional aid and the feeling of togetherness is a requisite in any kind of friendship and this is the true motto of ‘Friends’ and it charms me whenever I see it because ‘Friends are Forever’.
