Walking fitness programme is defined as the art of incorporating the art of walking in an individual’s schedule as a mechanism of promoting fitness and proper health. Individuals are usually encouraged by fitness experts to undertake walking for a time period of fifteen minutes up to thirty minutes. Walking daily helps the heart and lungs to be familiar with the exercise thus preventing tiredness during the exercise .Researches indicate that currently, many people do not engage in walking as a form of ``fitness programme “due to the nature of their work ``related” commitments (DOH, 2,2010).
Walking as a ``form “of activity contain several physical ``benefits” to individuals include; Weight loss-People struggling within excessive weight are normally encouraged to engage in walking as one of their fitness programme ``activity”. Walking for 10 minutes daily aids in burning calories thus walking daily helps in ``weight” loss. The weight ``loss” is the resulting effect of burnt calories .Walking boosts metabolism an aspect that is responsible for burning fats that are responsible for weight addition.
`However, walking can be incorporate as a mode of exercise to maintain the current ``body weight” by individuals an act that is usually geared towards maintaining a healthy living (Barough, 30, 2011).To Conclude, walking helps in the toning of bodies by increasing the muscles especially on the stomach and legs .Toning is achieved as a result of increased metabolism by the body through the energy generated during walking.
Further, walking, impacts positively on our minds by increasing alertness, promotion of optimistic moods and increasing energy production. Mind rest through walking increases productivity in work, satisfaction and self admiration. Further, we find that ``good mental health” that is achieved through walking promotes healthy emotions due to the reductions of distractions in the mind thus influencing how we perform our daily activities (DOH, 20, 2011).
Further, when a mind is relaxed, good sleep is experienced. Many people experience sleeping difficulties and aspect that is linked to disturbance of the mind. Walking clears the ``mind” thus creating a stable mind and emotions thus enhancing the occurrence of sleep.
Moreover, walking has a positive social impact on individuals. We find that walking is an ``outdoor” activity thus it promotes interaction with other people engaging in the exercise .Interaction promotes the creation of new friends as aspect that brings along aspects such as sharing of ideas and inspirations (DOH,21,2011).
Besides, walking promotes the curing of diseases such as depression and stress .Walking takes place in natural environs an aspect that helps to relieve the mind due to incorporation of other activities such as ``bird watching “ and interaction during the exercise. Stress and depression are a result of a cumulative sadness and misery aspects that are reduced through walking. Walking is thus incorporated as a mode of treatment to patients suffering from depression and stress.
In conclusion , walking should be adopted as a form of exercise by people especially in the ``modern world” which is characterized by advancements in technology an aspect that promotes the staying of indoors .For instance, instead of walking via a staircase to access building, many people opt to use the elevators .People use the elevators because they are accustomed to technology advances that make their movements easy such as the use of cars for transport thus walking through a ``staircase” is regarded as being tiresome .
