Keith Haring used continuous lines in his art work. Specifically, he used strong lines to draw in his art at a high speed hence he was very careful to ensure that no mistakes were made in his art work. The use of lines in his work was to ensure that his work would be easily recognized. In addition, he wanted to make sure that people could easily read his work. The combination of white lines and dots are use in his art to clearly define the black regions. Keith has also use dots in his work to differentiate the colors of the objects that he drew. The dots are large in size to make the colors clear.
In the portrait by Joe Sacco, a thin line is use. This type of line is used throughout in the work of art and does not keep on changing. In addition, straight lines are use to come up with the picture. In addition, the line is single throughout. On the other hand, the portrait by Joseph Roulin is made by use of two types of lines, straight and arched. Even though the lines are thin and straight like though used by Joe Sacco, they crisscross each other which is not the case as in Joe’s portrait. In addition, the lines do not appear on top of each other in Joe’s portrait as in Joseph’s portrait.
In Kara walker’s work of art, the shape of the objects used to come up with the pictures did not matter. Shapeless objects were combined together to develop the objects in the sculpture. The objects are small in size and black in color. On the other hand, specific shapes are used in chapter three to come up with the work of art. For example circles and stars are used. In addition, the shapes are have different colors and attractive.
Deborah Butterfields is a work of art outside chapter three that uses lines to come up with a three dimensional sculpture. The materials used in the work of art are linear but they are not continuous. This is to bring about the shape of a horse. In addition, the lines are jagged and not straight to bring out the three dimension of a horse. The shape of the sticks that were use in the sculpture was such that one would differentiate between a muscular horse and a thin horse.
Frank Gehry’s work of art is made such that it appears smooth. This is because the lines used are smooth and do not overlap. In addition, the shading is not very strong and therefore the sculpture appears suitable for the purpose of living in it. On the other hand, the work of Nick Cave appears rough. This is due to the fact that the lines used are bold and overlap. In addition, the shading is such that it shows the roughness of the sculpture. The difference between the two works of art is that that of Frank is made such that it appears smooth while that of Nick is made such that to appears rough. However, texture has been considered in both cases to come up with a building that suits a specific purpose.
