On my opinion, the best definition of the gender performance is the manner in which somebody reacts or implements its intended purpose. Males and females within society are expected to have certain gender role. Women are expected to be caregivers, motherly, thoughtful, loving and tender. Males must show less emotions than women do and be strong, confident and sturdy. These are, I suppose, traditional gender roles in our society. So, gender is a socially constructed idea and people generally follow it.
In the film Frozen we can see pure examples of real male and female characters. Anna is a positive female character in the film. I guess it is beloved by all viewers.
Anna is a beautiful young girl with a slender figure. She has blue eyes, rosy cheeks and long strawberry hair.
She is very energetic and inquisitive. She likes to sing and dance. At childhood she usually came to her sister and asked her to play. She loved to be together and during the whole film Anna wants to get close with her sister Elsa. She always was looking for the opportunity to spend time together. I think it’s a very good intention. She shows during the whole film that her most important treasure is her relationship with her sister.
She is very open-minded and kind. It seemed to me that during Elsa’s coronation, Anna was the happiest person in the whole kingdom. To be glad for somebody’s success is a very rare and noble quality. Think how she sang that day, danced in the corridor with servants. She was very happy for her sister and excited about the evening ball because as all girls she dreamed to meet her prince.
Anna is notably goofy and highly active. You can see her running throughout the castle, flipping over furniture and speaking to the paintings on the walls. Because of her impulsive attitude she used to get into troubles such as the moment she provoked Marshmallow without thinking about the consequences.
Anna is very eccentric, awkward and not very elegant. Anna also can be tricky or aggressive, as seen when she provoked Marshmallow. Perhaps she hasn’t enough grace and sometimes she acts first and then thinks, but you will not find more cheerful and curious girl in the whole kingdom. She always says everything that came on her mind. Remember the moment Anna met Prince Hans of the Southern Isles. She was a little bit nervous and talked too much. On the question about her white lock she answered that she thought it was a kiss of a troll. Planning the wedding, Anna enthusiastically talked about dinners, ice cream and other non-important things. It underlines that she wasn’t able to be serious even in such important moments.
Anna likes to dream. She is a free spirit and dreams about the life outside the castle. She is a pure and hopeless romantic girl. Anna is also a little bit naïve believing in the love on first sight and dreaming about the marriage immediately after if the heart tells you so.
But when eternal winter came to the kingdom, Anna went on a dangerous journey to fix it. It shows to the viewer her courage, determination and optimism. Those qualities unfortunately are rare nowadays. In my opinion, courage and determination used to be male qualities few centuries ago. Nowadays, after feministic movements in the period of equal gender rights, they became female qualities. After the death of the parents Anna came to the closed door of her sister Elsa trying to share the pain, to support and she sings, sitting beyond the door, that they both should be strong. It also shows us her strong sense of hope and the desire to fix the situation in the kingdom and her relations with the sister.
She is also very self-confident, for example, the moments they were looking for Elsa and met many difficult situations on their way.
Anna obviously has a sense of humour. She often smiles and jokes. Her sense of humour became more evident when she met Kristoff. We can notice it in their dialogues.
Anna is very modest and honest. She few times tells “It’s just me” (Frozen) and “No, no, I’m completely ordinary” (Frozen). During the whole film, numerous times, she puts her safety and well-being of others before her own. Anna shows great loyalty and admiration for her family and friends. Anna is the only character that the whole screen believes that Elsa is not a monster. She can see only the best in people.
Anna is able to feel real love. I guess that it’s her distinctive quality. She loves her sister. She is ready to understand her magic force that sometimes hurts Anna. She believed that she love Huns. Then she understood that you need more time to know the person and fall in real love like it was with Kristoff. She became very tender speaking with him.
Finally, she is a very sweet character. She is the most optimistic and caring character in the film.
