This paper aims at explaining the insight gained from watching Plaid Avengers Videos about the relationship between geography and economics. It combines the new knowledge and what was already known about politics, demographics, and globalization and how their geographical aspects affect economics. These discussions reflect the new perspective gained from the videos concerning how these aspects affect economics.
This in turn affects the environment in which traders make their decisions. For instance, a political leader like the president may decide that nationalization will be the new policy in the country. This will affect the decisions of the local and multinational traders in the region. The local traders may decide that their opportunity to invest where the multi nationals occupied in the market. However, most multinational traders will decide to pull off due to forceful acquisition of their property by the government. When such takeovers are presided in an unfriendly manner, it can result to falling economies. Most of the countries that participate in such are considered hostile. Politics also influence how safe or unsafe a country is. Most countries that are considered core countries according to systems theory are generally safe. However, countries at the periphery have safety issues. Most of the time, this heightened lack of safety is usually associated with elections. When insecurity ensues, most international investors and multinational investors pull their businesses out of these countries.
Demographics also have geographical aspects that affect economics. They include the characteristics of a population. Various sectors of the world have different demographics. Moat developed countries have a population with more working adults compared to dependent children or old people. Third world countries on the other hand have populations with more dependent children and old people as compared to working adults. Demographic trends that capture the change in populations’ structure are important economic factors. They influence the economic futures of the areas characteristic to them. For instance, if demographic trends show that most of the population is young, educated, and unemployed, a multinational company will set up easier as compared to an area with very old people who are economically unproductive or young children. Recently, women have become more empowered and policies in the work places have become more employees friendly. Demographic trends also dictate what type of businesses will grow depending on the taste and financial ability of the population.
Globalization has geographical aspects in terms of it tries to minimize the effects of physical distance between geographic regions and increasing international ties. Globalization has had major economic effects. Inter states business can now be conducted more easily as compared to the past. Multinationals have flourished under globalization. This is because countries now compete to attract these organizations. They change their business policies to host these multinational organizations in a bid to reap the opportunities offered by these organizations to their countries.
All the above factors have geographical aspects to them. They also act inter-dependently in the economy. Politics influence setting of policies, which influence the presence or absence of business, which is affected by the demographics of an area. It would be wrong to conclude that each of these factors affect the economy independently.
