Example Of Geriatric Reaction Paper: Peege Movie Review

The film has left an imperishable impression on me and I am not sure that I will be able to forget it soon. I cannot name the ending either happy or sad; it is rather life-like: in life we cannot treat all moments as purely happy or grievous, they are as it is with the grain of salt and sugar at the same time. Nevertheless, the whole film creates a rather uncheerful atmosphere, and the ending doesn’t change this impression much.
As we see, most of the family members aren’t eager to stay at the nursing home for too long and they don’t seem to be extremely glad to visit Peege. The whole situation seems to them rather like an obligation. The only exception is Greg, the eldest son, was sympathizing with the granny, still remembering their happy time together in the past.
As far as I am concerned, I feel more like Greg. One of the possible reasons are that I remember both of my grannies and I had and have very good relationships with them, that’s why I would be very grieved if such a tragedy happened to any of them. Moreover, I sympathize deeply for Peege.
Frankly speaking, I am shocked by Greg’s mother’s reaction and words. No matter if Peege is her mother or mother-in-law, she is still a significant part of her family. Besides, she must have some humanness and politeness towards elderly people, especially those who suffer so much, even without realizing it.
It is easy to notice the difference between the two states of Peege – “today” and in the past. As we can see, she used to be a cheerful, laughing and jaunty lady. The episode of her happy past is shown to contrast and therefore emphasize the terrible condition Peege is living in now.
I suppose, the film represents a nursing home as a not very pleasant place for elderly and sick people. One of the main problems stays loneliness, since no comfort can substitute dear people and their love and support.
The film shows one of the options of communication with the elderly and not the best one. As we can frequently see, as in the film as in our life, many of the young don’t want to find time and call or visit their grandparents and even parents. The most heartless pass them to nursing homes and forget about them until the next Christmas when they “have to” seem good children and come to visit them with artificial love. Luckily, this is not the only option, may children have good relations with their parents and grandparents and stay grateful for them forever. But still, knowing all possible variants of our future, I can’t but feel a bit scary about my old age because staying alone late in life is one of the most dreadful outlooks.
I hope that the elderly will become a significant and full-fledged part of the society and will be treated equally as other people but not as a burden who must find their place somewhere far away from the society. One of the solutions is providing job positions which don’t require much strength. Their huge life and work experience can contribute to many beginners, too. Moreover, many elderly people who are much cleverer than youngsters can teach them at schools or universities. Of course, all of these jobs must be part-time lest they should hurt they elderly - we still must remember about their age and problems connected to it. To sum it up, we can find a number of opportunities for the elderly to enjoy their life with a proviso that they need different treatment and conditions.
