Introduction
The event attended was an award giving ceremony called Waislitz Global Citizen Awards that was based on giving awards to those who give back to their societies. The event was initially founded by Hugh Evans who also doubled up to be the brain child behind the Global Citizen foundation. Hugh founded the organization in collaboration with other founders with whom they shared a similar focus. One of the other founding fathers of the organization included Alex Waislitz. The events primary functionality is to give awards to those who work hard to give back to the societies that exist in deprived situations. The main award of the event was to be awarded to one Anoop Jain who also happened to be child brain behind the establishment and foundation of Humanure Power. The main aim of organizing the event was to recognize the efforts that are made by individuals in making the lives of the citizens to be much better.

In addition to the prestigious prize, Humanure power was also awarded USD $ 100, 000 for their relentless efforts to serving the people of Toronto (Withers, 2014, p. 1). The organization has been in the frontline in ensuring that the residents of Canada get clean sanitation facilities that would be used by the entire community. The sanitation facilities were supposed to be used for free by all members of the community where close to two million members of the Toronto residents would benefit from the use of the facilities. Most of the families that were targeted by the organization have family members of close to five people per family. If the organization were to charge the residents for using the facilities, then each member would be required to part with at least ten dollars per day which would be quite expensive for most people.
The organization was also responsible for making sure that the society got efficient supply of clean water for each member of the society. The projects were started to ensure that the society uses every bit of their resources to the limit. The toilets were designed to have drainage so that the waste would all go to an underground tank where they would then decompose. The decomposition of the waste products would then result in the creation of methane gas (Withers, 2014, p. 1). Once the gas is generated, then such products would be used to power generators which would be used to create a water filtration system. The filtered water system would then be used by the community for domestic consumption purposes.
The main objective of the field study was to have a look at how the events were carried out from the beginning to the end. Moreover, the field study aimed at establishing the procedures and criteria that were used to pick the winner of the prestigious trophy. Additionally, the study aimed at knowing what the organization aimed at doing with the winners of the prestigious prizes apart from just issuing the prizes. For instances, the study aimed at knowing whether the organization planned on working in collaboration with the winners to expand their capacities in servicingthe communities. Another area of concern was to know where the organization gathered their data to know how much capacity the winners had within their disposal to warrant them such prizes. Those who were nominated for the coveted prizes were also interviewed in order to know what they did differently from what other normal citizens did. The nominees were also interviewedduring the event in order to know what made them chose on the specific areas and people. When they say that a certain society is deprived, what parameters do they use to rank a given society as a deprived society? Finally, the level of impact that such organizations have had on the societies was also a vital area of interest.
The method that was used in data collection was through the use of a computerized system where the questionnaires were all in electronic form. Besides, there were also paper questionnaires that were in place to act as a back-up just incase the electronic systems failed. The questions were administered to the respondents before, during and after the event. Before the event, the respondents gave their personal and independentview of what they thought about the whole organization and objectives of the event. Additionally, they talked about their expectations of winning at least one of the prizes that were being given on that day. Those who were questioned during the event talked on their perceptions and views of how the event was being carried out by the technical team that was running the show. None of the participants felt shortchanged based on the chosen winners of the day. Most of the participants were in agreement with the judges decisions of picking on the winners. Some of the participants however, felt that there was supposed to be additional categories so that most of the hardworkingindividual’s effort could also be rewarded.
The event was held in one if the prestigious five star hotels in Toronto wheredirectors and CEOs of some of the most successful business were all in attendance. The event began at around six in the evening and it ran all the way to midnight. The participants for the event were from all works of life. The average age of those who attended was between twenty nine to thirty two years. The majority of the attendance was of the American decent with a few Spaniards, Canadians and Mexicans. The event was chosen because it could act as an eye opener into the difficulties that most societies have been facing over the past several years. Additionally, the event acted as a good platform for the scholars to know what exactly they are expected to do for the progress of their societies.
Interpretation and Analysis
Based on the observations that were made in the event, it can be concluded that it is good to have such organizations in placefor the benefits of the society. When such investors realize that there are people out there who recognize the efforts they make in the society then they are most likely to add more efforts. What the organizing group should have done is to ensure that the other organizations that also make small contributions in changing the lives of the communities should also be included for future awards. Some of the small organizations may have so much great potential in changing societies for the best but their efforts maybe constrained with lack of enough financial resources.
The most outstanding thing during the whole event was that every member who was present was so excited about the event since it was the first time for such a thing happened. It acted as a motivation for everyone to make extra effort to ensure that they created big changes in the societies.
