Arguably, the world has changed tremendously, especially on issues related to environment. One of the challenging issues in the world today is considered to be global warming. As a matter of fact, global warming affects all aspects of human development, either indirectly or directly. Global warming refers to the state in which the temperatures of the earth atmosphere and ocean increase. The occurrence has been witnessed since late nineteenth century, and it is expected to continue in the future. Undeniably, sustainable development will not be achieved in the planet earth if global warming effects are not observed. Basically the issue of global warming has been debated and ore politicized.
Global warming occurs on the planet earth when greenhouse gases, such as methane, water vapor, nitrous oxide, as well as carbon dioxide trap light and heat from the sun; this automatically increases temperature. Undeniably, global warming hurts plants people and animals. Numerous current situations demonstrate that global warming has a direct impact on worldwide climatic changes, rising levels of the sea, and the melting of ice (Cohen & Aliosn, 2012).
Conversably, there are many causes of global warming to day. These causes are divided into natural, manmade, or anthropogenic. Scientists assert that global warming takes place because of human activities. The main origin of global warming is the emanation of carbon dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels and other power plants into the atmosphere (Jaworoski, 1999). Fossil fuels like natural gases, oil, as well as coal produce a lot of carbon dioxide during burning. Probably, manmade causes have the most damaging outcome. In this case, pollution forms part of the severe environmental problems (Maslin, 2007).. More of these activities concerning the burning of fossil fuels.
In the 21st century, world population is at an increase. In this perspective, increase in population poses a lot of challenge to the environment. Many people in the world mean that there is consistent increase in food consumption, transport. Additionally, methane will rise and will cause global warming; in fact, other additional cause is agriculture (Hougthton, 2004). High population becomes a threat to atmospheric freshness since a lot of CO2 will be released into the atmosphere. Deforestation in tropical forests for pulp, wood, as well; as farmland is directly related to population increase. Generally, the planet earth is under a lot of challenges, of which most of it is related to population increase (Solanki, 2002). In the kid 20th century, farmers have increased use of chemical fertilizers with an intention of increasing crop yield, this in turn affects the level of heat. This is because when high rate of nitrogen-rich fertilizers directly increases the heat stored in the cropland and develops dead zones in the ocean (Schneider, 1990).
As a result of global warming, there are various things that have taken place. Most of these effects have already been witnessed in the globe. Global warming has led to increase on seas level. This is cause by the massive melting of the ice sheet in Greenland and Antarctica. Certainly, with these continued trends there is a possibility that waters will displace many people. Moreover, global warming has led to developments of dangerous storms. For example, such storms include cyclones and hurricanes (Archer, 2011). Scientists have proved that global warming will intensify extreme storms in the world. Globally, there is a massive failure of agricultural products making many people go without food or water (Tsdell, 2008). Generally, global warming affects various effects, but it still makes it difficult to connect these events to global warming.
It is crucial to stop the causes of global warming to guarantee sustainability. Mitigation process is essential as it helps in reducing the activities that cause the emission of greenhouse gas. The entire world should utilize the use of less polluting and cleaner technologies. Pollution and burning of fossil fuels need to be reduced greatly so as to prevent greenhouse gases (Jaworowski, 2003). Information is always critical on issues related to global warming. This implies that the global governance should educate people on the causes and impacts of global warming. The most industrialized nation should always ensure that the carbon dioxide emitted is at its minimal level. The issues of global warming are real, and should not be politicized, but rather handled with a lot of seriousness (Andrew, 2007).
