The world today has been converted into a global village. As a matter of fact, globalization is one of the most known phenomena in the world today. It has actually caused a lot of changes in the local and national arena. The definition of globalization has for many decades been a debatable issue since it is very diverse. The intensity of global connection is very fast and continues to affect local community. Perhaps, globalization has affected the local community in various ways. Scholars assert that globalization has shaped the local community in various ways, which include political, social, economic, cultural, psychological, as well as spiritual. Based on the real life situation I believe that globalization has shaped my local community in equal measure. The local community has become part of the world, and continues to adopt a lot of global aspects because of the globalization.
Globalization effects have shaped my local community in various ways, both positive and negative. One of the ways that globalization has shaped the local community is economically. Analytically, globalization has net positive effect in shaping the community economically. Globalization has connected the local community with the outside world. This is because there is free flow of resources and money in and out of the local community (Teichmann, 2003). People in the community have a chance to have a taste of everything they want at the door step. In the past, this was not available since a lot of business activities were carried out in the urban regions. People in the local community could travel for a long distance to buy what they needed.
Globalization has also shaped the community in the sense that it allows corporations and other business institutions to establish business and run their activities in the local community. The provision of goods and services has become so easy in the local community. The people in the local community has also diversifies their economic activities. They have nowadays incorporated business as one of their economic activity (Irani & Noruzi, 2011). In the past, the people in the local community depended on agriculture to meet their economic demands. The increase in business activities has also led to creation of jobs within the local community. The effects of globalization in the local community have also improved the standard of living of the people (Hamilton & Wood, 2009). Many people can now access the basic human needs without straining more. Just like any other society globalization has made the local community a competitive arena. In fact, everyone in the local community struggles to make their lives better. Globalization has also opened the local community to global business and trade
Globalization has also shaped the communication process in the local community. People in the local community has benefited through communication and availability of information. The use of mobile communication and availability of internet has enabled people in the local community to connect with other people in the world (Irani & Noruzi, 2011). The availability of information in the local community is one of the major impacts of globalization. The cost of getting information in the local community has decreased; this is because people have access to internet, mobile communications, and television networks (Teichmann, 2003). The decrease in the cost of communication in the local community makes it very easy for people to get access to available information.
Through communication people in the local community are socially aware of various issues. The availability of communication networks has enabled people to share views, ideas, research information, and projects. It is through this view that globalization is a phenomena that has made sense on the issue of global society (Hamilton & Wood, 2009). Despite the presents of internet and mobile phones in the local community few people have accessibility to it. This means that there is need to make extensive application of communication techniques in the local community.
Globalization has also shaped the local community through improvement of infrastructure. It is worth noting that globalization has tremendously led to an increase of infrastructural facilities. In this case, the local community has improved health facilities, roads, education felicities, as well a better communication network. General education level has improved in the local community. Students in village schools have access to better academic materials and are becoming more aware of the global academic demands (Sinagatullin, 2006). One of the evidence to the impacts of globalization in education in the local village is the change of school curriculum. The school curriculum has undergone tremendous reforms to accommodate the globalization paradigm (Hamilton & Wood, 2009). In general perspective, globalization effects has shaped the community through increasing accessibility of education and education facilities.
In the past, life in the local community seemed too boring for the youth. With globalization in place life has started becoming more interesting. Globalization has increased entertainment opportunities (Irani & Noruzi, 2011). It is evident that the youth can listen to music and communicate with other people in the world through social networks. In the local society, many of the people who own mobile phones are the youth since they understand how a phone can open the world to you.
Globalization has also introduced various cultures into the community. Currently, people have changed their way of life by leaving their traditional way of life. The culture change is seen in various aspects, which include dress code, food, music, communication, and entertainment. The local cultures are becoming extinct, due to the influence of the culture brought about by globalization. Language is one of the main expressions of how diverse the society is. Globalization seems to be taking away the local language and introducing other languages into the community (Irani & Noruzi, 2011). This is actually negative effect of globalization since it shapes the community away from its cultural way of life. In general perspective, globalization effects as shaped the local community by increasing awareness of foreign culture and decreasing the impacts of local culture.
Environmentally, globalization has shaped the community through pollution. The introduction of automobiles and industries has increased pollution in the local community. The fresh air that people use to enjoy is no longer the case (Teichmann, 2003). The fact that there is interaction of communities and cultures leads to conflict among local communities. Competition is one of the factors that stimulate outward looking community strategies, which adversely affects the peace in society.
In conclusion, globalization effects have shaped the local community in various ways. As a matter of fact, these effects continue to increase due to the fact that globalization is dynamic. The changes caused by globalization are inevitable and the local society is forced t adjust to them Globalization effects has shaped local community positively through business, education, infrastructure, health care, entertainment, improved standard of living, job creation, communication, and interaction. On the other hand, globalization has negatively shaped the local community through pollution, loss of local culture, community conflicts, as well as and change of language.
