What are the three primary ethical issues involved in globalization?
The three primary ethical issues involved in globalization are economic, environmental, and political. The economic issues associated with globalization involve the level of free trade that exists among the various countries that take part. This presents the growing interdependence that nations have begun to have with one another in a growing market. For this reason, extreme changes that occur in the economy of one country could have profound consequences for the rest. Environmental issues stem from globalization as well. The growing industries that support the global market have been continuously increasing the pressure on the environment, which has come at a profound ecological cost. Finally, there are also political ramifications. The increased level of trade and industrial growth that now spans the entire globe has resulted in a dissolution of borders. As nations continue to rely upon one another restrictions on travel and trade are made less severe and a global political system has been established.
How do you personally feel about globalization?
I am personally fine with globalization. While it is important to maintain values and not be sucked in by the promise of a unified, peaceful, rich, etc. world it is also important to attempt to increase the level of connectivity that people have with one another. I believe that this is key in overcoming the variety of challenges that confront the growing global nation. In addressing the economic, environment, and political challenges a more inclusive society can be established. While it is not necessary to forgo traditional national identity in favor of this, I believe that it is important to consider the benefits of progress.
Does it have any impact on your life?
Globalization has had a profound impact on my life. The interconnected world has allowed me to purchase various things that would have been unheard of even ten or twenty years ago. Items such as cell phones, computers, and televisions have dropped steeply in price due to globalization. Furthermore, the sheer volume of information that is available in the online, global, community, and the knowledge that it provides, is of immeasurable value, the likes of which has never been seen.
