The issue to be discussed is in whose interests wars take place. Theoretically the answer to this question can be as easy as this: wars always serve the interests of the rival parties who initiate them and fight with each other. However, there are always certain factors which do not allow us to apply this common opinion describing the nature and background of wars for a number of reasons.
First of all it should be stressed that the notion “war” is commonly associated with a struggle between two or more social groups which fight each other for a certain reason. Such reasons can be for example: acquisition of the rival party’s territory or additional infrastructure, getting access to resources or fighting with antihumanic regimes, improving the living conditions, establishing democracy and human rights etc.
On the one hand these global reasons usually describe the factual situation and give an explanation for war actions. On the other hand, it goes without saying that any of them can be described as uniform i.e. applicable in almost any case, whereas the real reason underlying a particular war can be absolutely different. It is common that wars are at least claimed to take place in the interests of the majority of people taking part in them. Otherwise why would people opt for risking their lives? It is clear that the population of any country or any social group is surely unwilling to forget about peaceful living and rush into a battle. However in real terms of war it is actually the propaganda that gives people particular preconceived notions about the rival party and the necessity of war initiation. Therefore it can be maintained that the real war starters - the most interested groups - are not automatically its main participants.
All in all, it should be outlined, that although the circumstances change in every particular case, the overall trend is the same – there cannot be such significant change in people’s lives as transformation from peace to war without a moving force arising from a social group facilitating their personal interests.
