Essay on Act 1 Hamlet
The first act of the book is the best introduction that one can have for a play or novel. In this book Shakespeare brings out an atmosphere that captures the attention of the reader to want to read more and more. He introduces the major characters in the play, the starring role of supernatural, the plot of revenge, the contrast that is seen in the plot of Fortinbras and the feigned madness of Hamlet. This unique style of writing has made Shakespeare to set up the remaining part of the story. This captures the attention of the readers for they want to know what happens next.
The atmosphere in scene 1 is Elsinore on a platform placed before the castle. The atmosphere is o the battlements that are dark and this for sure catches the attention of the reader. We see that the ghost of old hamlet appears twice. This gives the rising point of the scene ad we also get information about the preparation of the military in Denmark. All of this information gives us the picture of a dark ad at the same time mysterious atmosphere. This causes the reader to want to know more. The atmosphere in the third scene is totally different from the others it is a scene of the family. The advice of a brother and the father brings about a different atmosphere from that of hamlet and his relatives.it brings about an atmosphere of love and betrayal.
In act one the major characters are also introduced in the story and this makes the reader to want to read the book so as to connect what comes after. Bernardo and Francisco are introduced as watchmen on their jobs. Horetio is described as one who is educated and as it appears he has great use in the development of the scene. Claudious is introduces in the second scene as the present King of Denmark. He is Hamlet’s uncle he is said to have been married to the mother of hamlet this brings about a definite impression. In this scene hamlet is also introduced with his love Ophelia. Ophelia is affectionate but docile. The ghost appears more times but only speaks when he appears in the fifth scene.
There are three main plots in Act 1 contrast, love and revenge. The plot of revenge is set up in the fifth scene. This is where he knows that his uncle Claudious is the one who killed his father who was the king of Denmark. After that he learns his own mother got married to his uncle, this makes him more disillusioned. He decides to take revenge for his late father.
In the first scene Hamlet shows us that he is high-strung, noble and at times he is seen as obscene and this causes him to struggle as a character ad by this he fails for his plan for revenge. His indecisive nature is the one that tormented him most in the story. Hamlet in the play is determined to avenge for his father but he does not have the ability to carry out his plans. He allows his problem of procrastination to destroy him completely and this makes him not to take his revenge. Hamlet has also too much of self-pity that affects him so much. The fact that he has been rejected by his true love and the fact that his father was murder brings him so much anger. This anger and sorrow embed him and eat him up like a terrible disease.
Hamlet is one of the characters that one cannot emulate because he does not do what he intends to do. He has helped a lot in the development of the plot and made the story worth reading. He is one of the characters that is interesting to read about.
In conclusion we see that the act the atmosphere, the madness, the structure and the character development sets a very good stage for the whole paly to come. It provides information that is enough to make the readers to understand what is going on. It keeps them entertained and they want to read more. I the five scenes the major characters have been introduced. This also made us as readers to know the situation of the royal family. The way that Shakespeare has written this scene in a way that has captured the attention of the readers.
