Atticus is a reputed citizen and he is a very good lawyer. He is very tolerant person and a humble human being who satisfies several queries of others and believes in helping other people. Atticus As father of Jem and scout pays his responsibilities in a proper manner. He inspires them to study, satisfies their queries and on the other hand, is always ready to help others in his social life.
When his daughter scout refuses to go to school, Atticus not like other parents, merely tells him that she has to go to school but he patiently listens her and ask why she does not want to go to school. After knowing the reason, Atticus persuades her to join the school and tells her that she should also understand the set of mind of her teacher.
Atticus as a lawyer was so devoted that he even did not care for his personal life which was being affected because of his professional life. When he decided to defend tom Robinson, scout and Jem were not in the favor of his decision because the people of the city had a negative opinion about tom Robinson. Jem and scout asked that why he defending tom is, while nobody is happy with his act. “If you shouldn't be defendin' him, then why are you doin' it?"
"For a number of reasons," said Atticus. "The main one is, if I didn't I couldn't hold up my head in town, I couldn't represent this county in the legislature, I couldn't even tell you or Jem not to do something again. [] Scout, simply by the nature of the work, every lawyer gets at least one case in his lifetime that affects him personally. This one's mine, I guess” .
Another problem occurred When Atticus found the behavior of jury a bit on edge. Since he had to present the case before the jury, he got worried about the impartiality of the jury. He says "I'm no idealist to believe firmly in the integrity of our courts and in the jury system – that is no ideal to me, it is a living, working reality. Gentlemen, a court is no better than each man of you sitting before me on this jury. A court is only as sound as its jury, and a jury is only as sound as the men who make it up. I am confident that you gentlemen will review without passion the evidence you have heard, come to a decision, and restore this defendant to his family. In the name of God, do your duty."
After having observed, it is good to say that the novel is a very luminous piece of literary work and the author has depicted the story and the themes in an amazing way.
