Intelligent and ambitious individuals come to the country, bringing their knowledge and talent with them.
Immigration can potentially result in wider opportunities for drug dealers, terrorists and criminals.
Immigrants often agree to work at low-paying positions, which is why lower prices and higher profits can be reached.
The national language and identity are disappearing.
Creation of the American image as open and welcoming country. It gives hope to a lot of people.
Consumption of government resources.
Immigration is useful for the USA, because first of all, it brings a lot of new people in the country. Among them there are a lot of talented and intelligent ones who take all their knowledge and skills along with them. It results in the following situation: America is the country that is most favored by the people who desire to change their place of residence – in a survey by Gallup about a quarter of potential immigrants chose USA as their desired place of living (Clifton, 2012). The situation is formed because of the international country’s image of open and welcoming country, which couldn’t have been reached without today’s immigration state and vast opportunities that the country offers to its residents (The Washington Times, 2005).
Along with the benefits created by the immigration, there are certain disadvantages it brings along. Among them there is inflow of those people who can harm the country’s safety and endanger the original residents (Independent, 2007; Meyer, 2009). Drug dealers, terrorists and other criminals come to the country along with those who are indeed useful to the country. Besides, the increasing number of people threatens the American culture, bringing diversity in it, but at the same time erasing its original image. It is necessary to take all the necessary to prevent criminals from entering the country and to keep the national identity.
Question 2
Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program offers deferred action for those immigrants who entered the U.S. when they were children and meet several other requirements. To understand peculiarities of this program, first of all, it is necessary to find out what deferred action means (BBC, 2006). When a person is qualified for deferred action, he/she receives low priority for immigration enforcement, and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) doesn’t deport the individual within 2 years, after which it can be renewed. At the same time, it doesn’t provide the status of legal immigration.
I agree that this program is fair in relation to illegal immigrants, because when being children they in fact often cannot do anything to change their destiny and not break the law. So, they should be given a chance to prove that they can be decent members of the American society. Often they become such members and enrich the original culture, adding their talent and knowledge to it.
I think that the problem of illegal immigrant children in the U.S. should receive maximum attention from the authorities and should be solved in the shortest possible time. To do it, it is necessary to control the illegal immigration on the whole and especially monitor the cases where children are involved. As for those of them who have already become illegal immigrants, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals offers quite adequate behavior for the authorities in this case. I think that at this point of time it is necessary to continue implementation of the program, improve it and develop further.
