THESIS: Efficient interpersonal communication skills are vital for the development of any type of relation. It is responsible for the growth or decline of various types of relationships in person or organizations.
a) First and foremost, my line of work requires that I acquire and utilize effective interpersonal communication. This means that one has to possess the ability to speak and relate with another party. Interpersonal relationships are the relationships between two or more parties that may be short term and then lead to long-term. They are usually persistent and concrete. My line of work requires that one can communicate easily and possess interpersonal communication skills.
b) The second reason is that for a person to gain trust from an individual, one has to have effective interpersonal communication. Trust is a fundamental utility in building any type of communication.
c) The final reason for choosing the selected topic is because it enhances group work and the social aspects of life. I tend to meet new people on a daily basis, and the use of effective interpersonal communication provides a good base to communicate. It sees to it that I am able to socialize with people easily.
II) I have had personal experiences in the scope of interpersonal communication relationship. a) I once attended a forum where people would voice their concerns on a local project to try and find solutions. However, the forum proved futile as most key members lacked interpersonal skills. Most would not know how to read other peoples expressions and intentions. They only voiced their opinions but did not check on others reaction.
b) The other experience is right here in school, during the group works I attend. Some friendships have evolved because of good excellent interpersonal communication. However, some relationships are also a victim of failure due to lack of effective interpersonal communication skills. Group works may disassociate as people are not on the same level of comprehension.
III) a) Trust is easily established through interpersonal communication. This is through gauging of both verbal and nonverbal interpersonal communication. Trust builds relationships among people. A consistent behaviour nourishes trust as it acts as a possible suggestion of the occurrence of the behaviour. Cooperation also enhances the growth of trust. This is also through effective interpersonal communication skills (Miguel).
IV) a) A good manager should show that he/she has good interpersonal skills such as effective communication. He/she needs to show certain interpersonal skills, which include the desire to manage, integrity and honesty and finally communication skills and empathy. These sectors go hand in hand. It builds relationships among employees and managers. They have one common fundamental baseline; the ability to possess effective interpersonal communication skills. Interpersonal skills are fundamental within an organization as it enhances productivity (SreeRama).
V) I have learned many things about myself due to research on this field.
a) First of all, I have realised that I tend to socialize a lot and that I employ good interpersonal skills. However, I have realised that I need to sharpen my interpersonal communication skills since my career needs the skills.
b) I have also realised that I need to trust people often, based on the type of interpersonal relationship they show. Trust, as they say, is earned through working. However, if I get to have good interpersonal communication skills, I could easily define a trustworthy person and one who would defile the trust.
c) The last thing I have learned of is that I need to be socially active if I am to acquire better interpersonal communication.
