Introduction
Finding an alternative to regular meat, which some people and environmentalists find harmful to human beings has been the goal of scientists for years. However, a healthier solution to regular meat was born. The alternative solution to regular meat is lab grown meat, and it can be argued that it is a product that is at the top of its class in nutrition. Lab grown meat has been called the holy grail of nutrition but as some people are aware, not everything that is nutritious is really good for you. Lab grown meat is in no way, shape or form good for people let alone human consumption. Just like with technology, lab grown meat has a lot of kinks that need to be worked out and extracted before it can be safe for human consumption and without the threat of it doing any harm to anyone who eat it. Engber explains “meat grown in a lab is not edible meat, and should be avoided at all costs” (Engber). Lab grown meat is one of the worst ideas to date, there are some people the world over who are benefitting from it but it does not mean that it is the ideal solution to solving the hunger problem or the alternative food source problem as well. Lab grown meat is, at best, a temporary experiment with no real value and the consumption of it has reprehensible consequences that most people will have to live with for the rest of their lives. Lab grown meat is on the brink of causing global wide panic on an epic scale for people who consume it, this paper will discuss why lab grown meat is not good for human consumption and the repercussions of allowing oneself to partake in consuming it.
Body
One of the biggest reasons why lab grown meat is not good for human consumption is because of the lingering diseases that might be found within the animal that they extracted the cells and fatty tissue from, an animal tainted and touched by a terminal disease can not only infect the entire herd but it can also transfer to the meat that they are growing in the lab. Case in point, lab grown meat because becomes popular because of its health benefits. However, there has been a report of a few hundred people getting sick off of the lab grown meat that their burgers and store bought burger patties are made of. Collins explained “genetically modified foods are among the dangerous to eat in the world, lives are extremely shortened” (Collins). Ironically, lab grown meat has the potential to be healthier than regular meat but it causes more problems than regular meat. With regular meat the worst that people have to deal with is possible high blood pressure and obesity, with lab grown meat, people have to deal with everything from a weakened immune system, possible health deterioration due to cancer or several cancers that will have developed in the body and so many other bodily impairments. People should know better than to eat something that is untested, people have to be smart and put their health first. Thinking about the consequences of trying to eat lab grown meat should be more than enough to stop people or at least they would think it would be, not knowing what a person is putting into their body is the most dangerous thing in the world. Bloom explains “eating meat substitute is completely unethical, ingesting something so vile and gross should make people wake up to the true ethical dangers of consuming lab grown meat” (Bloom). It is a known fact that lab grown meat can jeopardize a person’s immune system to the point of completely breaking it down or completely destroying it due to the dangerous elements within lab grown meat, natural or regular meat is not completely harmless but at least people know what is in it.
Coincidentally, eating lab grown meat has dangerous repercussions that some people cannot come back from. These repercussions consist of heart disease which can and has shortened people’s life spans by 10 years, people have a likely chance of dying from eating something unknown than they would getting hit by a car or getting a piano dropped on them. Zaraska explains “that consuming lab grown meat does not mean that a person is eating healthy, it just means that they are completely unaware of the hazards that come with eating lab grown meat. Staying healthy should be everyone’s top priority” (Zaraska). People have an obligatory duty to stay as healthy as possible and when people eat lab grown meat then they are endangering their lives, people should hope that lab grown meat substitute does not ever come on the market or replaces regular meat because people will have their work cut out for them trying to stay healthy admist the random sicknesses. Animals catch colds, contract diseases and people can get these things from the animals that they consume. When they do, they transfer it to their families and even small babies are at risk of succumbing to the airborne disease. People need to take these warnings very seriously because it is not unheard of for something so seemingly harmless to wipe out a house full of people just because the tenants were ignorant of the dangers of lab grown meat, it can be argued that people are looking forward to the health benefits of lab grown meat in which they will not have to succumb to any of the things that could easily wipe them out. In theory, lab grown meat will be ready for human consumption in five to ten years, but not now because the hazards are too great. People are more at risk for losing their lives or portions of their health to eating lab grown meat, people should beware when they start suffering from uncontrollable diarrhea and abdominal cramps that last anywhere from a day to five days. The threat is real and so are the warnings as well as dangers to their health, lab grown meat should be avoided at all costs because it is more unhealthy for a person than regular meat. Ironic as that is.
