Exceptionalities are present in almost all learning institutions and the key to face such cases differ quite significantly from the norm. Such cases include disability both visual and other physical features, slow and quick comprehension of knowledge and also mental disabilities. The plans for such kids should focus on comprehension, word study or phonics since they are addressed to children with a deviation from the standard. In this case, I will consider a child with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and one with speech impairment.
The model lesson plan is divided into active teaching, guided practice and independent practice. In the example with the student with ADHD, it is evident that he/she does not attain maximum attentiveness for long, so guided practice will work for him/her best. However, to achieve the best out of teaching the child, it is best to conduct active teaching whereby I will ensure that he/she expresses what they feel like doing. Secondly, I will make sure that I intricately outline what I will cover and the time that I will take covering the subject to get the ground laid well. After that comes the guided practice which follows right after the lesson constituents are set out and the explanations were done, I will engage with the student in the form of activities to show the application of the teaching. Such activities include question and answers, short verbal illustrations and then he/she responds with views relevant to the lesson. This will act as the pinnacle for the lesson bearing in mind that he/she cannot pay much-continued attention. The independent practice will be short and interactive assignments that are based on handy work to ensure keen interest.
Regarding speech impairment, I will use the same lesson plan. First is to make sure that via channels available like gestures or interpreter make the agenda known. In this case, more reading will be done and used to show the illustrative section of the teaching. Secondly, is to include the child in the reading through activities that are relevant and to speak to him/her boldly and right. This will show that you have an interest in having him/her understand what you are teaching. Being gentle will reduce the frustration that might occur. The independent practice should be short and interactive. It should seek to understand more about the child to have a better strategy for the guided sessions. So more illustrative assignments such as subtle parables and short stories that are fun and intriguing will prove success for better lesson comprehension.
