The world we are living today involves much technology that requires us to share our thoughts and situations with the world. It has become a daily routine among people to get up every day and share our experiences with millions of people across the world on how we spend our lives. Social networks such as twitter, Facebook, MySpace just to mention but a few enable us to connect with the world and find out what is happening. On a day to day activities people read about new developments and things that happen in their lives and end up writing about it in terms of their own experiences and how they feel about them. Innovations in technology have enabled easy and fast communication through channels that can be accessed by millions across the world (Ritzhaupt, et al 2013).
Literacy practices have enhanced the use of communication in that they allow people to read about every sort of thing they would want to know and hence they end up writing about it. The technologies in the world have made work easier for learners in that they give almost everything that they would want to know without even research on it. Web links and social networks grant people access to information about things that have occurred across the world on a day to day basis (Bizymoms 2013). For instance, if there is a war on any part of the world people get to know about it within a very short time and share their feelings about what they think should be done to help the situation. Communication networks have taken upon themselves to ensure that information is available in good time. On my part I have used this form of literacy to write about much of my research work. On average I read about 8 articles on different topics and books that have enabled me to do most of my research work.
This essay will discuss the types of communication technologies used in peoples daily lives and how frequently they use it in their daily lives. It will also describe the form of literacy portrayed or rather required to use these types of technology. It will discuss the literacy levels required in order to use this form of technology to communicate. To start with, communication has received a huge boost from the new innovations that are made in the world today. The passage of information has been made easier with people from different parts of the world sharing ideas within a very short time (Ritzhaupt, et al 2013). For instance a person in Russia may place a call to another person in South Africa within minutes and send the message across. This is one mode of communication used that involves technology. Similarly, the technological innovation called the internet has made everything seem so easy whereby people can send messages across the world within seconds. Communication channels available through the internet have made work easier in that they allow people to connect from different parts of the world (Ritzhaupt,2013).
It is important to note that it is not everybody who can just use the communication technology gadgets available in the world today. First of all, one must be familiar with the mode of communication being used, the language used in every communication network and they must also possess some basic literacy skills on the mode of communication used. This shows how diverse people have become in the way they pass their messages. To use these communication technologies people are required to have the knowledge on how to use them and have the skills to communicate with the people from other walks of life. These channels of communication enable people to show and share their literacy practices with others in the face of the world. Imagine being in a situation where you do not understand what people are saying and there is no way possible to communicate with them. This would be a nightmare especially in the life we are living today. Therefore, it is important to note that having the literacy skills is important in the world today (Ritzhaupt, et al 2013).
The communication technologies that are mostly applied in the world today include gadgets like advanced mobile phones, Computers, IPads and iPods and the most basic one which is the internet. They have all contributed immensely in peoples lives in terms of communication. They have elevated peoples' lives including mine in that I get to know about what is happening around the world just from the palm of my hand. I have done most of my research work just by sitting in front of my computer. This mode of technological boost has been adopted by many people across the world where many households, companies organizations as well as schools have used the innovations in technology to sharpen their literacy skills (Ritzhaupt, et al 2013). These communication technologies have been used to improve things done by people across the world such as advertising, publishing proposals, gathering information and so many other magnificent things. At this very moment I am using the technology to pass on a message from one point to another as this article involved the use of technology to get to the reader. This is how I spend most of my time, every minute I find myself checking my email, tweeting on basically everything I go through in my day to day life. This happens to all my peers where we send messages via the social network regardless of the distance between us (Bizymoms 2013).
In addition to this, communication has developed in such a way that people gather information from across the world just by watching the news, listening to the radio or researching on it from the internet. Time and time again I enjoy watching a basketball game on the TV and share my feelings or thoughts about the game with my friends by sending messages or emails to them from all corners of the world. This give us the link and connection to one another regardless of the distance between us. By doing so I portray my literacy skills through the modes of technology used to communicate to my friends. On a daily basis I use the communication technologies almost every minute that I have to find out what is happening in the world. Technology has also enabled people to better understand the environment where people can now connect with nature to understand it better (Bizymoms 2013). Technological devices have helped people understand the environment through connecting with the trees and oceans as well as the animals that dwell in these places. There is also the new innovation of GPS that enables people to locate places and other facilities in case they are lost or want to visit a new place. This enables them to connect with the world and know about different places easily.
