Example Of Making A Real Change In The Community Essay

Last winter I decided to make my community a better place to live and encourage others to contribute towards this change. The idea was to organize a food drive in order to help those in need.
Firstly, I had to build a team of people in the community willing to help and supporting my idea. Luckily, many families were in favor of such a campaign and ready not only to donate necessary food items, but also to volunteer. Then I contacted local food bank to find out what groups and organizations in our community might benefit from the food drive. Then, I set up a meeting with volunteers, and together we determined the objectives to be achieved as well as the dates and ways to collect food donations. I also assigned responsibilities to particular groups. One team was responsible for finding and preparing the drop-off locations, while another one had to spread information about the food drive. When all the preparations were finished, volunteers started collecting food donations and local people started coming to the drop-off locations themselves. All in all, my food drive campaign achieved the stated objectives and can be considered as a successful one.
I have to admit that this food drive campaign helped me develop my character as a leader. I learned how to manage group work and allocate duties effectively. Furthermore, I learned how to work under stressful conditions and how to reach a compromise. Finally, the organization of the food drive made me feel an important and valuable member of the society and a real leader, who is able to encourage others and make a real change.
