More information was obtained from an extra research on the links provided by trying to understand how each of the institutions delivers knowledge to its students.
Shared goals
The institutions provided have some various like goals that they aim to achieve. Some of these goals have been discussed below;
Both the institutions are trying to develop executive levels competencies in the discipline through a curriculum that demonstrates leadership, management, and strategic competence.
Another common goal for both the organizations is to teach their scholars to become knowledgeable in the organization implications of technology as it relates to security, successful adoption of the organization as a whole.
The institutions also strive to ensure that the students learn the methods of scrutinizing, collecting, and prioritizing business needs with an emphasis on knowing the corporate model and the mission.
According to Miles (the interviewee) “Everyone’s goals are all the same in business school, and we all want to learn the most we can and use that to gain positive feedback in our classes. In turn, we hope that it will pay off in the Business Management world (Ben’s interview).”
Shared ways of communicating
As schools for business management, there have to be different ways of passing the information from the tutor to the students.
In all the cases, communication is done orally where the teacher meets a group of students then teaches them by ways of interaction. This way, the students are engaged in the process of learning, and they are imparted with more theoretical knowledge.
Another common method of communication in both the institutions is the use of information technology. Here, communication is through the computer by use of emails. It is not most preferred because students in most cases do not understand the topics they are covering the program
Shared methods of information exchange and genres
Information exchange in both institutions occurs at different capacities. One of them is the transfer of information from the tutor to the students. In this method, information is shared by way of discussion between the teacher and the students. Here, the teacher is believed to have more information than the student. Therefore, the teacher does much of the talking/delivering information while the students are keenly listening. After that, they can ask questions or elaborate on the extra info they have researched on. Information is also exchanged between the institutions during joint talks such as motivation talks (Loyola.edu). The institutions regularly invite motivation speakers who pass information which is mainly about success to the learners.
Shared genres
The institutions share numerous similar subunits;
Human resource: one of the primary type where they educate their scholars on the importance of human labor for the development of the business. Students who specialize in this field have the capacity to become human resource managers of any firms.
Finance and accounting: this is another primary genre shared in all the cases provided. Here the student gains knowledge acquired from school to work out with the available money in an organization. Maybe by decreasing production cost or increasing the sales made.
Marketing: another key genre of business management where the scholars are imparted with the knowledge of marketing of a company’s product. They apply the strategies learned in school in order for the company to realize much profit (nwitimes.com).
Other shared genre include public relations and entrepreneurship or international business. In both cases, students leave when they have necessary experience and knowledge in this field.
According to the interviewee, “When in business school and work, you have to have good people skills, be able to be good at math and speaking. I would say that speaking is what I use the most. If you speak clear things will work much better for you (Ben’s interview).”
Shared lexis
In the process of sharing information, precise vocabulary in the business field are used, and they help in driving information to the learners. Both the institutions under study use some similar vocabulary. For example:
At stake- is one of the primary vocabulary used in the business field. It means putting something at risk. Both the institutions use the vocabulary.
Cave- it implies that someone has given into something that he previously did not want to accept.
Cut-throat- the vocabulary is used to describe an aggressive, merciless, and intense thing. The explained things included competition and market for the raw material (businessenglish.com).
Wide variety of membership experience
The scholars obtain experience in the field of business management through different ways. As students, they might go for internship in various firms and apply the knowledge that they acquired in class to the field. A wide variety of the experience is obtained by engaging in the different organization with different needs (smarta.com). This way the scholar will have enough experience to face the current problems that are disturbing in the business world. They can meet them because they have engaged themselves and learned about various ways to curb different problems.
Joining the community
Joining the community is not a hard task for someone who has enough knowledge on the field. Scholars are thought on how to interact with various types of people and communities. Firstly, they can apply their knowledge of business management on a small scale. This way, they stand a better chance of gaining more experience while interacting with their future (nwitimes.com).
In the case where they have knowledge of entrepreneurship, they can start their small firms while making good use of the information they learned at school. They stand a better chance of interacting with the community one-on-one and make more money for sustaining them.
They can also educate the existing business owners on better ways they can run their business for them to make more profit. If the advised way works for the company, they have an upper hand of being employed since the owner will assume he is a constructive element.
What does it mean to be experienced in the field?
Seeking experience is one significant step that scholars can take. For one to be experienced in the field, it means that he understands the current market trends (Loyola.edu). He also knows the efficient strategies that when they are implemented they will rip more profit. Business management field experience is acquired by taking risks since sometimes you will experience losses. Therefore, for one to be said that he/she is experienced, and then he has been involved in many cases of taking risks, and he understands what can bring to the company more profit.
According to Ben Miles, “When you first start college you are considered a new member. As you move on and graduate from college, you are smart in your field, just not experienced. After about five years give or take of working in your field, that’s when you can be called an experienced member (Ben’s interview).”
Conclusion
Business management schools have played a crucial part in equipping students with both practical and theoretical knowledge in order to face the current problem in the business world. They have managed this in a number of ways. One primary method is through teaching them on how they can incorporate information technology into the company’s program. The schools have also studied the current trends in the market and have strategized on the effective ways for them to equip their students.
