My interest in maternal and baby care started after I delivered my daughter and began breast feeding. It was then that I recognized the importance of Maternal-Fetal Medicine. It was at this point that I decided to help mothers become enlighten on the importance of health care during pregnancy and contribute to the global need for effective health care knowledge.
There are many health problems, behaviors, and risk factors that contribute to maternal and childhood mortality and morbidity. However, my goal is to focus on improving the health of expectant mothers by delivering services that reduce barriers before, during, and after pregnancy.
Current health-related educational experiences that have prepared me to join NYU Master of Public Health program include: health-related internships, certifications, and work experiences as presented on the attached CV.
A major strength is my love to help others (i.e., individuals, couples, families, communities) through public health education. Public health presents a diverse and dynamic field that focuses on serving others, which complements my interest. My weakness is biostatics; however, I will take other courses to strength my knowledge on this topic.
After obtaining my degree from NYU, I plan to return to my country and campaign to promote proper health care through community forums as a public health care professional. Educating expectant families and complementing the efforts of Perinatologists are important global challenges in many countries (Gates Foundation, 2011).
I believe that global maternal challenges addressed by the medical profession can reduce chronic diseases that present fatal complications. This is an area that continues to plague the medical profession world-wide. Therefore, I am determined, dedicated, and driven to realize my goal; and provided the opportunity at your renowned university, I will rise to meet all academic challenges and become a graduate that NYU can be proud of.
