Abstract
Life is a game. We need to make systematic moves, based on some rules and principles so as to make sure that we emerge as winners. Now, the definition of a ‘winner’ is different for everybody. This definition is the one which is easily readable in ones’ personal mission statement. It is a summary of what you want to do in life, not in the short-term day-to-day life, but the one which you understand as the essence of your being. These rules and principles on which each one of us lays the foundation of our lives are called code of Ethics. To make ones’ personal mission statement workable and to make sure that the set goals are achieved, codes of personal and professional conduct need to be set right. These are the only basis through which personal mission can be accomplished.
My Personal Mission Statement:
My personal mission statement would be to become a good human being and to play all roles in personal and professional life to my utmost potential, make sure that I give everybody their due and lead a satisfied life, full of love, care, money and respect.
My personal mission statement includes personal as well as my professional life. So it becomes important that I frame separate codes of conduct for my personal as well as my professional life. Both my personal and professional life have to be based to highest standards of morality and ethics if I wish to make my mission statement true.
My Personal Code of Conduct:
Personal code of conduct would be the basis of my behaviour at all times. The foremost code of my personal conduct would be to abide by the rules, code of conduct, and laws of the community around me. This would also include my professional and office code of conduct. This could help me live in harmony with my fellow beings and professional acquaintance.
Another very important ingredient would be to share knowledge from the practical experiences which I gain through listening, reading, writing and self-observation. This way I would get an exposure to a healthy discussion with my colleagues, which would help me get a knack of the point of view of others.
Third very important aspect would be to respect the confidentiality of any conversation that anybody has had with me, at any point of time, so as to not to create of get involved in creation of trouble for two opposing parties, be it my professional or else my personal relations. In case it happens by chance, I would strive my hardest to make sure that things are sorted out calmly.
I would also want to use my communication skills-written as well as oral to the best of my abilities, for myself as well as for others, to make sure that they are honed and used to create value in some form or the other. I would always make sure that in case of conflict of interest, I take the first step In addition to this i would also make sure that my computational ability and allied skills can be used to help others wherever possible.
I would never want to change any of my core, family, religious, social, personal or professional value to please others. Whatever I do, I will always have at the back of my mind, this code of conduct, which I have set for myself, and will take utmost care not to compromise with any of them. It does not, according to me, make sense, that I should become a completely different person, for someone else, if I myself become unhappy do to it.
My Professional Code of Conduct:
Since I am still an employee and propose to remain one in the long term, my professional ethics will always be synonymous to employee ethics, which might or might not change with the changing ethics of the business world, or else with my changing the organisation which i work for. Professional ethics are made of certain core principles such as high morality and competence, which remain grounded even if the employer changes. Others change with the case of conduct of the organization I would work for, such as acceptance of gifts, relations with colleagues and customers etc.
First of all I would always look at maintaining confidentiality of conversation, agreements and assignments as regards to myself as well as my colleagues. This means, that on my part, no information or documents should ever get leaked so s to give a chance to anybody to misuse the information to harm any of the parties involved.
The second important element of my professional code of ethics would be to give due credit to all my fellow workers, and especially to me subordinates and juniors. This could include, depending on time and situations, verbal applause or applause in public for their good work and the assistance which they render to me at various points of time.
The next code which I want to follow is to maintain quality, effectiveness, dignity, high moral ethics and competence at the highest level. I would never want myself to be counted amongst employees with low morale or negative outlook to my profile job or else towards to the entire organization. I would work at the utmost level of confidence and intellect, so as to put my best to work; because that’s the only way I will be able to climb up in professional spheres.
I would never shirk work, run away from responsibility, and especially of the mistakes I have made. I will make sure I take responsibility of my mistakes and weak areas within me, best my best to improve them and ensure they are no repeated under any circumstances. I want to portray myself as a reliable employee, capable to making fast improvements on basis of feedback of employers and co-workers.
When in corporate meetings, I would make sure that I voice out my opinions when asked for in a confident and a diplomatic manner, so as to not to offend anyone with varying points of views, different than that of mine. I would also not become rigid for upholding my point of views as the best and the most one, but would take active interest in listening and understanding why others think different than I do, and find out whether my thought process is flawed in any way. If not, I would beg to differ. In case I have made incorrect assumptions, because of which I think the way I do, I would definitely try and look for ways I can improve in.
