Business
In today’s world of free trade, not all companies are viewed as equal. When it comes to companies dealing in products that cause harm to health of human beings, the attitude of the people, societies and governments is not very positive and this is not wrong from my point of view. I support the consumers in this case and think that the companies producing such dangerous products should be controlled by the government and laws.
Tobacco Industry
Tobacco is one substance that is extremely harmful to health and therefore, must be sold in a controlled environment. The governments of many countries have made it mandatory to mention the harmful effects of smoking of Cigarette Packages and that these products are not to be sold to children. Some governments have also banned the advertising of tobacco products. It should be the responsibility of the companied manufacturing these products to inform the people about the harmful effects of the products or quit the business. The consumers, especially young adults, are not always aware about the harmful effects of these products and companies take advantage of this, hence, these products should be sold in a highly controlled environment to safeguard the interests of the consumers (Kaplan, 2016).
Capitalism has the major goal of making profits and this motive makes the companies take the decision of promoting and selling harmful substances. The companies end up making high profits at the cost of health of innocent people (Pablo, 2012).
It is not possible for the companies to create a balance between their interest and the consumers’ interest. If, these companies make any profit, it would be through the sale of harmful products that would affect the health of the people. So, any business on part of these companies is dangerous for the society. Even if the companies educate the consumers about the harmful effects of these products, the people consuming the products would still be affected, which is not a good sign for any country. The addiction to these products would only jeopardize the future of the society and its people (Rosenblatt, 1994).
