The new law that is officially known as affordable care act is aimed at improving Americans health care system. The bill is aimed at addressing long term health care problems for the American people. Despite the efforts taken by the president and his team to pass this bill, there are people who are against this bill.
Pros and cons
The Obama care bill addresses long standing problems that are faced by the American citizens. Most aspects of the current bill are unreasonable, unfair and unaffordable. The bill reduces the cost of insurance, improve health care quality in America and expand people coverage on health. The Obama health care bill is aimed at improving employer’s health care by making it available to many employers. The bill will care for specific groups like women and seniors and people who did not qualify for medical aid. In addition, it will increase the number of people who will receive medical care by a large percent.
The bill will address affordability and quality of health care in America so that people can access medical services without any difficulty. It will be achieved by fixing some of the issues in the health industry and health care system (Obama health care bill Obama health care reform, 2011). In connection to affordability in health care by the American people, it should be realized that it has been aimed at making profits. The prices of health care have been tightly controlled and most practices are very unfair (McDonough, 2011). The health system in American has been working in a way that is very unfair in that those who can afford insurance are the ones who receive health care. On the other hand, those who cannot get insurance or medical aid can only receive medical services through the emergency room. The new health care bill is aimed at making insurance more affordable and expanding it so that many Americans can be able to access medical health care.
Apart from the basic factors insurance companies for a long time need to be regulated. There have been unfair hikes of rates, limited coverage and denial of health care based on the preexisting conditions (Obama health care bill Obama health care reform, 2011). Obama health care has helped in curbing all these issues and has ensured that the American people get access to health care regardless to their income. Insurance companies could at times kick citizens of their insurance when they got sick. Obama care made this illegal and any company kicking out its citizen would be fined heavily.
Conversely, The bill has made many insurance companies lose a lot of money making them to run at a loss. This has made most of the insurance companies to run at a loss which is very disadvantageous. It has also deducted the revenues that were being taken by the government, thus bringing down the economy. Despite the disadvantages the Obama care has helped a lot of people.
The Obama healthcare program is costs is much more expensive than the benefits it will give to the American citizens. To manage the program, the government will need to tax its citizens, hence life will be difficult and hard for an average individual. In relation to insurance premium, you find that it will increase, thus reduce the number of individuals participating in the program. The process of registering an individual involves other processes such as cancer screening, which will increase the costs of medical treatment.
It is interesting to note that, the bill was signed into law by president Obama on March 23th in the year 2010. He also signed health care and education reconciliation acts into law which will overhaul the current health care system (Jerricho, 2012). Obama care has stipulated various issues that will benefit the American people. To begin with, no one will be discriminated to access health care on gender basis and insurance companies do not have a right to kick anyone out of the program. In addition, the insurance companies will have to justify any increase in their cost of coverage. Also, Americans will be provided with health coverage based on their income and employment. Moreover, there will be no limits on the amount of health a patient needs while small businesses may receive tax credits for providing their workers with insurance cover. The president explains that his government and the nation at large have rejected such cruelty (Gibson & Sign, 2012). Through the advancement of union forces all people will have access to health care through the promises that were written in the constitution by Obama’s administration? He says that America has joined other nation to fight health care inequality. In his speech, he acknowledges the effort of various organizations and individuals that have made it possible for Obama care to be signed into law.
Conclusion
The Obama care bill addresses long standing problems that are faced by the American citizens. Most aspects of the current bill are unreasonable, unfair and unaffordable. Obama care has curbed these issues by ensuring that there is affordable health insurance and that everyone should get health insurance depending on his income. On the other hand, many people in America have not been able to receive quality treatment because of expensive health insurance. Only the rich were able to have access to quality health care because they could afford it. People in lower and middle class received health care at the emergency room.
