Obamacare law is a law that requires companies that have 50 or more full-time workers to offer complete health plans and insurance to workers who work more than 30 hours every week. This law applies to equivalently working staff as well that means that a worker performs two shifts of 15 hours each then he will be considered as a full-time worker. If an employer crosses the limit of 50 workers who work for more than 30 hours in a week and does not offer them insurance will have to pay a fine of US$ 2000 for each uncovered employee beyond the limit of 30 employees. So if a company hires a 50th worker and does not pay full insurance to all of them, they will have to face a penalty on the previous 20 workers too. (Obamacare, p.1)
The implementation of new law means, that company will have to cut the worker hours to stay in business or else if they fail to provide insurance coverage, they will have to face a fine of US$ 40,000. Many franchises of different brands have started to cut back on full-time employment. In a survey performed by Mercer consulting firm in 2012, it was found out that around 67% of retail and wholesale businesses are planning to change their workforce strategy before the full implementation of ObamaCare and insurance mandate in 2014, which off course will mean cutting down on full-time employment or reducing work hours. (Obamacare, p.1)
The timing could not be worst for this as involuntary part-time U.S. employment is already at its record high. There are roughly eight million U.S. workers who are in need of a full-time job, but due to the economic situation and recession periods companies are unwilling to provide them with full-time contracts. With the implementation of ObamaCare the trend to encourage part-time will increase significantly. Hence, the democrats who thought they were doing U.S. workers good by obligating firms with health insurance coverage should realize that it does not help workers to give them with healthcare insurance if they do not receive a full time job that pays their overall expenses.
