Application software consists of a program or groups of programs which have a particular design for end users. The programs lie in two primary classes, that is, application software and systems software. Application software is beyond system software as it includes spreadsheets, word processors, database programs, etc. while system software comprises of minimal level programs which interact with the computers at a basic level. Experts can publish the application software alone or group them with the system software. Application software, on the other hand, is an application as the database software, spreadsheet software, and word processing software are all primary application software types.
Application design is the process of developing a system or application. A software architect has a primary goal of minimizing the complexity through the separation of the design to other areas which are of great concern. For example, the data access, business processing, user interface represent different aspects of interest. Software design is a process of creating a software artifact specification with an aim of accomplishing goals by using a range of primitive subject and components to constraints. It encompasses problem solving and identification of a software solution by involving algorithm design, low-level component and an architecture design of a high level.
John Willinsky is the author of the journal publication of “open journal systems, which is an example of software that is deemed to be an open source for journal publishing and management. The Journal discusses how individuals can use the Open Journal application design system in publishing and managing scholarly journals on the online platform. The system can reduce the costs of publishing other than printing because it ignores the traditional processes of publishing. According to the journal, the application software is flexible since, after its publication, the users can freely download it at it is easy to install it on different local web servers (Willinsky, 2005).
The software experts came up with the open journal software design so that it can be helpful in reducing the energy and time that people devote to the managerial and clerical tasks which have a relation with journal editing. The journal proposes that the system will be crucial in improving the public and quality scholarly publishing by applying significant innovations such as making the journal policies to be transparent and also improving their indexing (Willinsky, 2005). In conclusion, the journal presents that any individual can quickly adopt the system as long as they have an online platform. It can be useful in the journal analysis making the users clearly to understand the content in a short period. There is a clear history of the system and different experimental explanations which are helpful to the end user.
According to the author, it is crucial to implement the open journal application design in the online platforms since the end users can benefit by getting a software which is time and energy saving. The journal is evident because it clearly explains the system’s history, its development, and the specific features of the online journal system. It also includes some experimental aspects and the early results and some works which are underway in which one can easily base the system. The journal does not give specific examples where that system has been applicable previously and the outcomes. It does not also specify the feedback of the previous users so that those willing to use it can decide on whether to use it or to reject it. The journal assumes that the users will not have difficulties in using the system thus it does not illustrate the process of using and applying the system.
