There are many performances and quality improvement tools that are available and can be used to identify the increase in complaints. Some of the tools which can be used include a bar graph, brainstorming, cause an effect, scatter diagram, and workflow diagram. The tool I would use to check the increase in complaints, in the HIM department is that of brainstorming. This is a powerful tool that is used to identify the mistakes and the areas that need to be improved. This tool is used to generate a lot of ideas at once. With this tool, people will give information voluntarily. This tool will give many results in a remarkably short time.
The method I would use to confirm the actual reasons as to why there is an increase, in the complaints in the HIM department is that of cause and effect. This is a tool that is a structured form of brainstorming. It is well defined and has a better structure of getting better results than using brainstorming alone. With the use of this tool, the direct cause of a problem will be identified. The actual or potential causes of these problems will be identified. To me, this is a strong visual aid that can be employed when undertaking any solution of a problem. It has powerful ways of understanding the cause of something and gives ways in which these problems can be solved. It integrates the strategy that is used by brainstorming, but makes use of visual aids to bring out the problem correctly and in a clear perspective of the person looking for the solution. I would recommend these two tools, brainstorming, and cause and effect tools when identifying the rise of complaints and the when confirming the actual reasons.
