Tips for PowerPoint Presentation
First, make PowerPoint presentation simple. A complicated PowerPoint will derail the speaker and confuses the audience. Secondly, use few bullet points and limited text to avoid boring the audience. Thirdly, use a few transitions and animations that are professional and subtle. Fourthly, use graphics that are of high quality to make the PowerPoint slides attractive. Fifthly, select an appropriate font that can be read from the furthest end of the room. San Serif is the most appropriate for PowerPoint slides. Sixthly, use an appropriate color that will evoke the feeling or emotion that the presentation is intended to convey. Seven, write a script. PowerPoint slides should have very summarized information in bullet form. Therefore, it is important to do enough research and prepare comprehensive script with a clear beginning middle and end. Eight, prepare beyond the PowerPoint slides. The screen slides are only part of the presentation; therefore, the speaker should also be mindful of his or her dressing, movement during presentation, room lighting among others things . Nine use more visual than text slides. Most people are able to get the message at a glance from visual slides. Lastly, use a font that is large enough for the audience to read. A font size that is less than 24 points is not recommended.
American Elections
In our modern society, fixing the election date on the first Tuesday of November seems like an arbitrary date. However, it made a lot of sense in the 1800s. It should be appreciated that America was largely an agrarian society. Therefore, the selected day and month for voting had to be convenient for farmers to ensure a high voter turnout. American elections are held Tuesday because voters were given one day to travel to their polling stations. In those days, people from outlying areas had to travel from their farms to polling stations which were in towns. Since Sunday was a Sabbath, allowing voters a day to travel occasioned Tuesday to became the voting day. The month of November was convenient for farmers to travel since they would have already concluded harvesting.
