Pop art:
Abstract:
This is a form of art whereby traditional art is fused with popular culture. Popular culture refers to advertisements, celebrities, popular destinations and movies. This art movement had its roots in the United States and Britain in the 1960s. Pop art uses different elements that are evident in modern pop culture as a form of art. This include comic strips as well as advertisements and product names and brands,. It is believed that the movement rose in order to rebel against the ideas on traditional expressionism and postmodern art that were constrictive.
Poster Created:
The image shown above is the poster that I created using pop art influences. In order to create the poster Andy Warhol, Roy Liechtenstein and Tom Wesselmann were researched in order to understand pop art better. From research it is evident that pop art uses different elements that are evident in modern pop culture as a form of art. This include comic strips as well as advertisements and product names and brands,. It is believed that the movement rose in order to rebel against the ideas on traditional expressionism that were constrictive.
For example the image shown below shows The Last Supper cycle (1986) by Warhol. It is a piece that elaborates the use of popular culture in art. This is mainly because it depicts the last supper.
Another artist involved in the pop art movement is Roy Lichtenstein. Lichtenstein mainly utilized comic strips as a form of art. In addition, he did reproductions from excellent paintings such as the Monet. The image below shows Drowning Girl by Lichtenstein.
Roy Lichtenstein's Drowning Girl (1963)
Lastly, the last image shows Tom Wesselmann’s Still Life. It utilizes a lot of color and combines different aspects of everyday life. Such works of art have been utilized in modern day advertising.
Thus, the poster created relates to this form of art since it utilizes popular culture influences as well as modern day advertising features.
