Organizations set various management concepts to enable the management teams to accomplish their set goals. There are four main principles in management: planning, organizing, Controlling, and directing. These basic functions allow managers to handle the strategic and operational activities of the organization (Tengblad, 2012). The functions play a key role in development of employees as they equip them with a sense of responsibility. Several successful firms have adopted the use of the four basic principles of management, for instance, the Kraft Food Group.
Planning is the main principle in management and lays the foundation for the other three functions. Planning enables an organization to determine its current position, and strategize on how to accomplish its targets. The Kraft Food Company’s managers create a game plan to identify loopholes, and make relevant decisions for correcting the mistakes. Frequent meetings, employee schedules, and reports have enabled the firm to deliver quality services to their clients.
Organizing involves determining the course of action for the company after gathering all the available resources. The Kraft Food Company uses the labor, capital, and channels of distribution to deliver the products to the market. Effective assessment of the internal organizational structure and constant healthy relationships, have enabled the firm to be the leading food company in the United States of America.
Directing entails assigning of duties and orders to the employees by the managers in an organization. Appropriate direction and motivation are the core values in the directing principle (Morden, 2004). The Kraft Food Company believes in motivation of workers to maximize their talents and skills. Involving employees in the decision making process has increased the company’s productivity over years.
The final principal in management is controlling, which involves monitoring of the organization’s activities to ensure that the set goals are achieved. The function involves sealing any loophole that hinders a company from achieving its target (McCalley, 2002). Kraft Food Company has unique ways of controlling the employees without them getting negative attitude towards work. Proper communication by the managers before the implementation of controlling principle, enabled thee workers to understand the importance of the strategy. The controlling principle has enabled the firm to achieve its ultimate goal of being the leader in fast food industry.
The four principles of management are vital in determining the direction of any company, regardless of its size. Managers should learn to balance the four principles to achieve proper management skills for the organization. Successful management must attain the organization’s goals and objectives, and should therefore, apply the four principles in management.
