The individuals exhibit professionalism in the way they are dressed and in their presentation of self. A professional outlook incorporates a modest outlook that is evident in the professional pictures as there is the absence of overdone make ups, skimpy clothing. Most importantly the attire worn by the individuals is utterly recognizable from the onset in the profession that the individuals are involved. Presentation of the individuals is done through an aura of self-confidence that is indicative of their professions according to Kin (2010). The police officers and firefighters seem lively and ready to serve while the detective is tough looking and the forensic scientist seems keen in the collection of data or results.
The police officers and firefighter fall into the category that I would want to be associated with in the future. The individuals are dressed in the full attire that is required of their respective professions thus; they are illustrated in a manner that indicates their professionalism. Individual badges ensure that the servicemen can be ascertained by anyone. The manner of posture among the three helps depicts professionalism among the individuals as stated by Kin (2010). Facial expressions are expressed in a professional manner as all persons wear the faces of people who are serious in their line of duty. Communication skills require comprehensions and appropriate illustration of the non-verbal cues that are predominant in the attire one wears. According to Kin (2010) official attires indicates that individuals can be relied upon to attend any professional or formal meetings if asked to while exhibiting self-confidence. The police officers and firefighters uniform have great social significance in that they express ideas and attitudes and perceptions that people expect once they require their services. The law must be upheld, and the individuals are characters that are supposed to uphold the law, therefore, they are responsible for ensuring that their professionalism levels are maintained.
The professional attire of servants of the public is guided by strict regulations with regards to the appropriate dressing codes of conduct. Codes of conduct that govern the servicemen i.e. police and the firefighters are expected to be upheld during all working hours to full effect. Inappropriate attire is considered as an infringement of the regulations that govern dress code. Areas that may be regarded as unprofessional in my line of profession include several critical sectors. Colored hair that is of extreme styles or stylistic is not appropriate especially due to headgears. Beards are expected to be fully shaven as facial hair is restricted to the service. Cosmetics should be maintained at a bare minimum with colorful nail polish and long nails being prohibited. Tattoos are offensive and must be covered while excessive jewelry is restricted. Dirty uniforms should not be worn to work, and selective wearing of uniforms is banned as uniform has to be worn in completion. Inconsistent appearance while in large groups in patrols is also considered unprofessional. Inappropriate headware as per the kit to be worn is also restricted and should always be matching.
Professional standards should be maintained at all times and instances. Public servants are obligated by law to maintain a certain code of conduct and professionalism in what they wear. Attire should be consistent with official apparels during working hours in the provision of services. The appearance should be maintained through clean and appropriate attires that exhibit the conditions that are expected while carrying out their mandate.
Non-verbal cues are also an important element that police and service men should uphold with high regard, the nature of their work is based in a social context. Therefore, minimum requirements are expected to be maintained due to dealing with people. Codes of conduct that govern police officers are tailor made for ensuring that servicemen and servicewomen retain their status quo to earn respect among the citizens they serve to exhibit authority.
Facial expressions and appearance come a long way in illustrating the professional standards that are associated with professionals as stated by Kin (2010). Service delivery requires the right knowledge of facial expressions when dealing with citizens. Contemporary stylistic tendencies that are usually in other professions should be kept away from these servicemen as they are not part of their required dress code.
Professional attire elicits respects and authority. Career choices have various rules that govern the items that individuals wear. It is of paramount importance that attire, self-presentation, and communication skill set are maintained at all career levels to ensure efficient delivery of responsibilities. Professionals are involved in many activities, and it is their responsibility to uphold standards of practice among all sectors especially during the office hours.
