The following list seeks to compile organizations that are specifically related to issues surrounding school violence, aggression, bullying, cyber-bullying, peace and reconciliation, gender and race, and values in conflict resolution.
For each organization, I will give the name of the organization, a link, and a brief description of available information.
Organizations on School Violence
U.S. Department of Education http://www2.ed.gov/policy/gen/guid/school-discipline/index.html . The U.S. Department of Education offers resources on School Climate and Discipline where they consider how to curb school violence. This references articles by leading scholars in the field and tools for teachers, parents, and students.
STRYVE (Striving to Reduce Youth Violence Everywhere) http://vetoviolence.cdc.gov/apps/stryve/ While this organization concentrates on youth violence in general, a large part of their work centers on youth violence in schools due to the fact that youth spend an incredibly large amount of time in the school systems. Further, they take a critical examination as to why prevention must be a priority.
Organizations on Aggression
Center for Aggression Management http://www.aggressionmanagement.com/ . The Center for Aggression Management provides training and systems for people looking to end aggression in a variety of places. This organization was created by John D. Byrnes in 1993.
Organizations on Bullying and Cyber-Bullying
StopBully.Org http://www.stopbullying.gov/This organization specifically provides resources regarding bullying and cyber-bullying. This organization provides information for those interested in bullying, those being impacted by bullying, and those that are interested in what to do as a bystander.
The Trevor Project. http://www.thetrevorproject.org/This organization, founded in 1998, provides support for LGBTQ Youth, who often face issues of bullying. They work with crisis intervention and suicide prevention.
It Gets Better Project. http://www.itgetsbetter.org/This organization also provides support to LGBTQ Youth, who often faces issues of bullying. Dan Savage created a YouTube video which ultimately went viral. From then, more than 50,000 user-created videos have been uploaded with positive messages for LGBTQ youth facing issues around bullying.
Kind Campaign. https://www.kindcampaign.com/ The Kind Campaign was started by two college students who were impacted personally by bullying. This organization stresses being kind to others and the two founders travel across the country attempting to end girl-to-girl bullying and cyber-bullying.
Stomp Out Bullying http://www.stompoutbullying.org/ Stomp Out Bullying seeks to do just what its name suggests – to end bullying. This organization puts on a number of campaigns throughout the year, including Blue Shirt Day, No Matter, and National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month.
American Humane Association http://www.americanhumane.orgThis organization does quite a lot, but specifically targets child abuse and bullying prevention and intervention. This organization provides resources for those being impacted by bullying.
Organizations on Peace and Reconciliations
NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) http://www.nato.int/ NATION is an international organization with 28 member countries that seek to be an international security hub and collective defense. Thus, this organization ultimately works on creating peace through violence deterrence.
Peace Action. www.peace-action.orgThis organization specifically seeks to work to for peace and is extremely anti-war. It was founded in 1957
Christian Peacemaker Teams. www.cpt.org . This organization partners with nonviolent movements around the world. Essentially, it attempts to end war through nonviolence.
The World Peace Prayer Society. www.worldpeace.org . This organization seeks to use prayer to eventually end war and create peace.
On Earth Peace. www.onearthpeace.org . This is another religiously affiliated organization that seeks to use the teachings of Jesus Christ to build communities up through their understanding of peace.
Organizations on Gender and Race
Center For Race and Gender Equity. https://www.ywcapgh.org/programs/center-for-race-and-gender-equity . This organization promotes equity in regards to Race and Gender specifically in Pittsburgh. This is a function of the Pittsburgh YMCA.
Born This Way Foundation https://bornthisway.foundation/This organization seeks to assist youth and young adults in empowering them to embrace their gender identity, racial identities, and sexual orientation. This organization was founded by popular musical artist, Lady Gaga and her mother Cynthia Germanotta.
National Organization for Women (NOW) www.now.org. This organization is the most well-known organization fighting for women’s rights. This organization seeks equality in all areas of life for women.
Object. http://Object.org/uk. This organization is based out of the United Kingdom that is seeking to end the objectification of women in mainstream media through movements such as “Lose the Lads Mags.”
Organizations on Values in Conflict Resolution
Facilitating Peace. http://www.facilitatingpeace.org/. Facilitating Peace is an organization of people who are attempting to prevent and resolve violence. For those already in violence, this organization provides services in “international peacemaking, peacebuilding, and post-conflict reconciliation (Facilitating Peace).”
Association for Conflict Resolution. www.acrnet.org. This organization seeks to assist people in their understanding of what conflict resolution truly is.
National Institute of Marriage. http://nationalmarriage.com . This organization specifically looks at conflict resolution on the micro scale versus macro scale through it’s assistance with marriages. With such a high divorce rate in the United States, this organization creates programs in a focused environment to work on marriages.
A Better World Foundation. http://www.abetterworld.org/. A Better World Foundation seeks to make the world a better place through conflict resolution and peace. This organization provides many programs that help people focus on the meaning and direction of life that gives the most value to people.
Center for Civilians in Conflict. http://civiliansinconflict.org . This organization seeks to apply pressure to countries and organizations in war more responsible to civilian populations before, during, and after conflicts. This organization believes that too often warring parties do not consider the ramifications of their actions on civilian populations.
Citizen International. www.citizens-international.org . This organization seeks to bring about peace, cultural cooperation, and anti-militarism. One of the most important aspects of this organization is the emphasis placed upon cultural cooperation and the understanding of different cultures.
