Question 1: Client Request
The client, Patrick Delacroix, is the vice chair of the engineering department in Aerotech. He is requesting Cassandra Wilson, a consultant in the human resource domain to assist in solving two primary issues that are affecting the productivity of the engineering department. The two problems include teaching Todd the appropriate management skills required in Aerotech and educating the engineers concerning time prioritization and management (Case Study 2, 155). The problems are impacting the productivity and image of Aerotech Inc. which is not at its best at the moment.
Question 2: Presenting and Underlying Problems
Todd and his team do have a problem but also the reshuffle of the engineers from their previous areas of specialization may have affected the productivity of the engineering department. Todd needs to work with the provisions of the company owing to its current state. The team should also prioritize and management its time (Case Study 2, 155) As for the reshuffle, the human resource management domain should go back to the drawing board to identify the suitable team that each engineer should be placed according to his or her expertise.
Question 3: Data Collection Strategy
The data that would vividly outline the exact problem in the engineering department should be qualitative and primary information from the affected parties, that is, the engineering and finance domains. The data will be obtained through questionnaires and interviews to gather what the professionals think about the current practices in Aerotech and ways to improve their morale and productivity.
Question 4: Disadvantages and Advantages of Questionnaires and Interviews
The questionnaires and interviews will assist the human resource department to acquire first-hand information from the people that the changes will affect. They will compare the issues that are recurrent in the professionals’ responses to develop interventions that coincide with the problems. The two data collections strategies are time consuming; hence, it will probably take a lot of time (more than 3 months) to gather and analyze the information. The survey and interview queries will seek to understand the opinions that the professionals have concerning their duties, the management, and opportunities in the firm. Observations will also help in identifying any issues in the workplace.
